How the Giants Young QB Got the New Head Coach into the Big Apple
As of today, the New York Giants finally came to terms with their new head coach's contract. John Harbaugh will be coaching the Giants for the next five years after he signed off on a 100 million dollar contract. Harbaugh came in with many ideas for this team, and one of the most significant factors in his decision to accept the coaching position with the Giants was their rookie quarterback, Jaxson Dart. This quarterback was the most considerable appeal to this head coach. He has seen how he plays and what he can do. Harbaugh spent a lot of time watching the tapes, more than any of the other teams, and knew that this was where he wanted to be.
When the New York Giants selected Dart during the 2025 NFL Draft, they became more than just a team in need of rebuilding and an identity. This was a team that needed more structure than anything. Harbaugh picked up on this when seeing that the team had all of the puzzle pieces that needed to be put back together, but they had not been used as they should have been. Harbaugh especially enjoyed watching this young quarterback play. Dart has toughness, mobility, and a command of an offensive mirror. He has always prioritized young quarterbacks who can extend plays, absorb pressure, and be team leaders. Dart is the kind of quarterback that Harbaugh has won with before. Dart made this team a better fit than a gamble for this head coach.
After seeing Dart and learning what he was all about for this Giants team, Harbaugh knew what he wanted. He didn’t feel like he was risking anything. However, he thought that he was right where he needed to be. Harbaugh liked the way Dart handled situations and worked with his teammates, such as Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers, to make the plays happen. His long-term vision is what matters, and this is what he sees for this team. He will also be able to round out his roster and cut away from the team those he wants to cut so that the Giants can become a number one team again in the league.
The Giants’ roster construction is definitely something for Harbaugh to build around Dart. He wants to improve the protection, have more emerging weapons, and have a better defense altogether. Dart has added much of that value, and a big reason why the former Baltimore Ravens coach came to the Big Apple. Harbaugh wants Dart to thrive early on, and he’s already on his way there. The Giants didn’t just sell him a plan; they gave him something to work with.
