How the Jaguars Star Quarterback Became a Leader in 2025
Heading into the Jacksonville Jaguars 2025 campaign, there were many questions surrounding the former college phenom quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence had arguably his worst season since his rookie year in 2024, playing only 10 games due to injuries and throwing 11 touchdowns to seven interceptions. He also had yet to repeat his 2022 success, where he earned Pro Bowl honors. That season, Lawrence led the team to an AFC South title and threw for the most passing yards and touchdowns of his entire career. The Jaguars gave him a five-year, $275 million contract extension before that disastrous 2024 season. Many questioned whether it was an overpay and if he’d ever play up to those standards to make that extension worthwhile, although some predicted he was due for a big season. In the end, 2025 turned out to be a new chapter in the right direction for Trevor Lawrence’s legacy.
Paired with a new head coach in Liam Coen and a new offensive coordinator in Grant Udinski, something was bound to change for Lawrence entering 2025. The Jaguars jumped out to a 4-1 start on the season, although Lawrence had six touchdowns to five interceptions. Then the offense became riddled with injuries, such as to rookie receiver Travis Hunter and veteran Dyami Brown. Another injury to starting tight end Brenton Strange didn’t help Lawrence’s case in making 2025 a season to remember. If anything, Lawrence was struggling to find his footing up to this point. The Jaguars had a rocky few games and eventually found themselves sitting at a 5-4 record through their first nine games. However, this is where things would take a turn for Lawrence and the Jaguars. The team would get a statement win over the Los Angeles Chargers, and Lawrence found himself leading a team that was persevering through all the injuries and doubts from around the league. From this point on, Lawrence would end up playing the best football of his entire career, and the Jacksonville Jaguars would go on to not lose another regular season game. They finished the season 8-0, and Lawrence ended up having 2,009 passing yards with 19 touchdowns to five interceptions during that stretch, along with five rushing touchdowns of his own.
Yes, the Jaguars went out and traded for Jakobi Meyers and had veteran Parker Washington step up into a bigger role when things got tough. However, it was Trevor Lawrence who kept the offense on the right path and did not let the injuries and struggles get to their heads. The Jaguars would go on to lose their Wild Card matchup against the Buffalo Bills 27-24 with two interceptions thrown by Lawrence, but that can’t ruin what a great season he had. Lawrence proved that he can lead a team through battle and persevere when the odds are against them. For Jacksonville, the future is only going to get brighter with Lawrence leading the ship.
