How the Signing of a Former Third-Round Pick from the Rams Will Benefit the Saints

NFL

Last month’s NFL Draft was a well-publicized event. The ceremony was met with immense anticipation and delivered on it with the news of some popular players being assigned to their predicted teams and some that hadn’t been foreseen by any analysts. A less-publicized event is the team’s minicamps, which are typically private, lack media coverage, and include some lesser-known and veteran participants. However, in the case of the New Orleans Saints, their own rookie minicamp has some surprising results in the signing of several players to the team for important positions, among those for safety. Mr. Terrell Burgess was among those veterans who had been in the NFL and was invited to demonstrate what he’s capable of. What he showed the coaching staff resulted in the unrestricted free agent being signed to a one-year contract.

At 26 years old, Mr. Burgess’ NFL resume includes four seasons between 2020 and 2023 in the organization with the Los Angeles Rams, New York Giants, and Washington Commanders. He began his professional football career when he was drafted 104th by the Rams after competing at the college level at the University of Utah. In the four years he participated, he played 43 games in which he started four of them as an offensive player, had 35 solo tackles, and assisted in 19 tackles. Similar to the Saints, he has been to a Super Bowl in which he helped his team to a victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. Leading up to that championship victory, he appeared in all four of the playoff games.

Terrell will be joining Tyrann Mathieu and Jordan Howden as the team’s primary safeties. With these newcomers to the Saints, there’s a lot of speculation as to how the team will perform. What’s also more concerning is that all of these gentlemen will be training alongside the newly signed quarterbacks who have been signed within the recent month. Fans are likely concerned about these “fresh” new faces on their offensive line; however, it’s also a move in the right direction for the team, especially with continuing to acquire players under the age of 27 years old. Another minicamp will be held next month, which will be made available for attending and viewing by the public. This one will likely have more media coverage and be focused on these “new” players alongside their veteran Saints counterparts.
