Inside the 2025 Indiana Pacers Offseason

NBA

The Indiana Pacers enter the 2025 offseason after their most successful season in franchise history. Pushing the Oklahoma City Thunder to seven games, the Pacers were just 48 minutes away from their first NBA championship. Then, Tyrese Haliburton tore his Achilles on a non-contact injury in the first quarter. The Pacers’ title hopes since then have drastically changed, as Haliburton is expected to miss the entire 2026 NBA season. With that said what will the Pacers do to combat this injury? With that said what will the Pacers do to combat this injury? I will talk about that and we’ll take a deep dive into the Pacers 2025 draft selection and who they may need to target in free agency.

2025 NBA Draft: Indiana Selects Taelon Peter

The Indiana Pacers traded away their 2025 first-round pick to the New Orleans Pelicans to acquire their 2026 first-round draft pick that they previously had traded to get their star forward, Pascal Siakam. On Day One of the NBA Draft, the Pacers watched and waited for Day Two to approach, where they had the 54th overall pick. Needing to address their guard concerns after the Haliburton injury, they selected Taelon Peter, a six-foot-four guard from Liberty. With the lack of depth at the position, the young guard has an opportunity to earn a spot on the roster.

2025 NBA Free Agency: Who Do the Pacers Need to Target?

NBA Free Agency opens June 30th at 6 p.m. EST, and the Indiana Pacers have impactful decisions to make. Their first order of business will be to re-sign center Myles Turner. After averaging 15.6 ppg and 6.5 rpg, Turner is expected to hit unrestricted free agency on Monday. The Pacers’ second priority is a serviceable replacement option for Tyrese Haliburton in the immediate future. Potential guard options like D’Angelo Russell and Tyus Jones could provide instant production as  Haliburton rehabs from his injury.

Any Hope for Indiana in 2026?

The Tyrese Haliburton injury was not only devastating for their title hopes in the finals, but for their title hopes in 2026 as well. After drafting Taelon Peter, Indiana has made it apparent they intend to fill the guard spot until his return and have no intention of tanking. Re-signing Myles Turner and adding more depth to their backcourt will be the top focus for the next couple of weeks. After their magical Finals run in 2025, Indiana needs to capitalize on their championship window by retooling their roster for when their star returns.
