Intriguing Player Matchups for the Cowboys in 2026

NFL

Fans around the world eagerly anticipate the release of the NFL schedule each year, searching for the best games during each week of the NFL season. Not only are fans looking out for the best games throughout the season, but they also look forward to individual matchups with the best players in the league that can spark debates and give a great show. The Dallas Cowboys are in some of the best games of the season, and their star power can create elite matchups. With sibling rivalries and matchups featuring the league's top talent, what are the most intriguing player matchups for the Cowboys this season?

Lamb vs. Stingley Jr.

Week Four of the NFL season provides one of the best receiver-cornerback matchups that the league will see all year. It is difficult to predict the exact receiver that Derek Stingley Jr. will primarily guard, so focusing on CeeDee Lamb since he's still the Cowboys' top option is the right approach. The last time Lamb played against Stingley was in 2024, where he put up eight catches for 93 yards, while on the flip side, Stingley had an interception and two passes deflected. In this game, Cooper Rush stepped in for the injured Dak Prescott, who was out for the season due to an injury he sustained against the Falcons two weeks prior. Despite the injury, Lamb still put up a good game, but Stingley would put up a better one, and the Texans would leave AT&T Stadium with a 34-10 win. These two have been competing against each other since their college days, and 2026 will mark another chapter in their intense matchups.

Downs Brothers

It is rare for a pair of brothers to make the NFL; it is even rarer that those brothers have the opportunity to play against each other. Luckily, in Week Nine, not only will both Josh Downs and Caleb Downs play one another, but they'll also be matched up against each other for a good portion of the game. In the pre-draft, Caleb told his older brother Josh that the Cowboys would plan to use him in the nickel, which is the exact position that Josh will be guarded against since he plays slot receiver. While Dallas will likely play Caleb wherever he can cause the most havoc, he will still have the opportunity to guard his older brother when the situation arises. The likelihood of brothers competing at the highest level of sports is quite low, and for them to face each other and be on one another is a rare occurrence in any sport, let alone the NFL. Dallas and Indianapolis meet only once every four years, making it all the more special that these two brothers will compete against one another so soon. This matchup is a memorable moment for both the NFL and the Downs family.

Parsons vs. Guyton

Dallas will travel to Green Bay in Week Six, and despite the fact that Micah Parsons will miss the early portion of the season, he is expected to be back for this game against Dallas. Since the huge trade being shipped to Green Bay for two first-round picks and Kenny Clark, Dallas has been able to make good use of the assets they got in return for him. The intriguing matchup to look out for is Parsons against the Cowboys' left tackle, Tyler Guyton, who is still finding his stride in the league. It is a crucial year for the former first-round pick as he enters his third season in 2024, as he has not demonstrated the growth that many anticipated. The only way for him to prove he is taking the step to become an elite tackle is by holding his own against one of the league's elite players in Parsons, who can line up anywhere on the defensive front and exploit any mismatches he identifies, and Guyton must prove that he is not one of those.
