Is a Former Maryland WR on the Trade Block for the Bears?
The Chicago Bears’ offense has been on fire through four games this season. Quarterback Caleb Williams and his offense are averaging 25 points a game, which is a big step up from being dead last in points per game last season with 18. This improvement has earned Chicago a 2-2 start on the season, with a very manageable schedule coming up in the next six weeks and a culture that looks to be changing. The Bears do, however, have an interesting opportunity to make a big change to their team, which comes from their wide receiving group.
Wide receiver D.J. Moore has had a slower start to the year than usual. Moore has 173 yards and a touchdown, and while productive, it has not been enough to keep himself at the Bears’ number one receiving threat. Wide receiver Rome Odunze has been one of the NFL’s top players this season, having 296 yards and five touchdowns. Odunze has earned himself at least one touchdown in every game so far for the Bears. He has become Williams’ favorite target, and one he can rely on to get Chicago’s offense jump-started at any moment. While it has been a phenomenal start to the year for Odunze, it leaves many Bears wondering what may be next for Moore.
Moore has been the number one wide receiver on either the Carolina Panthers or the Bears for the past six years, leaving him in a new position that he may not want to be in. The Bears’ pass rush has struggled thus far, becoming a weak spot for their defense and its ability to get to the quarterback. The idea of exchanging Moore for a star defensive lineman like Dexter Lawrence from the New York Giants has begun to open up amongst the Bears fanbase. Ultimately, it will come down to what the Bears’ front office believes is best for the team, and they may wait to see if the pass rush can start to come alive and help a struggling defense. Moore will look to continue to be an asset for Williams, hopefully being provided more targets and opportunities for touchdowns.
