Is A Former World Tag Team Champion About to Leave WWE in 2026?

There aren’t many luchadores who have made waves in WWE as much as Dragon Lee has. From being labeled as the future of lucha libre by Rey Mysterio to teaming with AJ Styles during the last months of ‘The Phenomenal One’s’ career and winning the WWE World Tag Team Championship, Lee has had his fair share of success. However, even when it seems that a wrestler is riding a huge high in his career in WWE, there always seems to be that desire to search for something more outside the company. With rumors that the former World Tag Team Champion’s contract is set to expire soon, and with him and his brother Dralistico trademarking a possible tag team name for the future, is Lee about to make his way out of WWE?

Lee signed for WWE in 2022, opting to split from his brother and tag team partner, who would remain with AEW. He made his first WWE appearance on NXT, defeating Nathan Frazer to capture his first win. One of his biggest runs came when he began feuding with NXT North American Champion Dominik Mysterio. The former World Tag Team Champion would quietly make his main roster debut during this time but would return to NXT after defeating ‘Dirty Dom’ and capturing the NXT North American Championship to secure his first piece of gold in WWE. Lee would hold on to the belt for 31 days before dropping the title to Oba Femi. A month later, he would become a member of the LWO. 

The former World Tag Team Champion would capture gold during the next few years on the main roster. Lee defeated Andrade to become the new WWE Speed Champion. He would hold on to that title for a few months before losing it to El Grande Americano. A few months later, an unlikely tag team with Styles earned him more television time and ultimately a Tag Team Championship run, which would become Styles’ final championship with the company. Lee continues to be on WWE television continuously, but that might not be enough to convince him to remain with the company if the rumors swirling around are true.

There was speculation that Lee’s contract with WWE might be expiring soon, and there hasn’t been any certainty that he will re-sign with the company. One of the major talking points regarding his contract coming up is a trademark he and Dralistico filed for, which could possibly see them team up once again outside of WWE. The reunion could see them compete in multiple promotions such as TNA or New Japan. Still, it might not see them go to AEW given how the relationship between Lee and the company ended following his decision to choose WWE over them. This could also be a ploy in order for Dralistico to sign with WWE and be promoted heavily on Lucha Libre AAA, but only time will tell if that happens or not.

Lee might not find himself in the main event scene, but his production as a luchador in the mid-card scene has pushed him to new heights in the company. The former World Tag Team Champion continues to be featured on Raw and in Mexico, but a reunion with his brother could change all that. Lee is a success story when it comes to luchadores in WWE, and his legacy in the company won’t go unnoticed, but at the end of the day, only he knows where his future lies. It’s either his brother joins WWE, or it ends with Lee leaving the company.
