Is a New Look Coming for the NXT North American Title After ‘All Egos’ Reign?
During the July 22nd episode of NXT, the NXT North American Champion ‘All Ego’ Ethan Page unveiled a new title design for the championship. Page talked about how 17 Americans before him had the honor of being North American Champion and that he plans to bring more honor, dignity, pride, and class than all 17 Americans combined. Then, he explained that it’s because of who he is and where he comes from. ‘All Ego’ was born in Canada and made in America, and that makes him the “greatest North American alive.” Page revealed the new design for the North American Championship with a resemblance to the Canadian flag. While the champion will keep this design on the belt throughout his title reign, it begs the question of when the next NXT superstar becomes NXT North American Champion, of how the belt design will differ from the original created back in March 2018.
‘All Ego’ will be facing TNA’s Director of Authority, Santino Marella, next week for the title. Page will certainly be the odds-on favorite to win and continue his championship reign. Page’s opponent for NXT Heatwave has yet to be decided; however, some NXT superstars could make some meaningful next steps in their careers with a win over the champion. This would certainly allow ‘All Ego’ to move up to the main roster after spending his time in NXT since last May. Page has won both of NXT’s major championships over the past 14 months. His presence in NXT has been impactful, but sooner or later, it will be his time to move up to either Raw or SmackDown. This title design has made the North American Champion a bigger heel than he already is. The change in design fits Page’s character to a tee and will serve him well until the championship reign concludes.
The next superstar who holds the NXT North American Championship will have a decision to make. Go back to the original design or create a brand-new design for the title? The original title doesn’t have that much flair as it could, more so it’s pretty bland, so perhaps a new design by the next champ could spark some great interest in the championship, not like there hasn’t been interest in the title already with Page and the 17 Americans before him. We’ve seen the NXT Championship and NXT Women’s Championship go through a couple of different designs, perhaps we’ll get a new look for NXT’s midcard titles as well. It’s only a matter of time, whether it’s next week, at NXT Heavwave, or further down the road, the North American Championship could unveil a different design before the end of 2025.
