Is a Six-Time World Champion’s Injury a Ruse?

WWE

Two nights after The Vision had one of their best nights of the year, Bron Breakker and Bronson Reed attacked Seth Rollins, turning their backs on the leader of the group in an unexpected fashion. Rollins is rumored to be out of action for an extended period of time after suffering an apparent injury during his match against Cody Rhodes at Crown Jewel. Currently holding the World Heavyweight Championship, Rollins’ injury will be a huge blow to WWE as they prepare for their upcoming major events, such as the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania. However, with not much being talked about of Rollins’ injury, one has to wonder if this is all part of another storyline WWE is cooking up to swerve the fans once again.

Rollins’ feud with CM Punk, who recently won a Number One Contender’s match to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship, has been going on for quite some time. Rollins stated to Punk that he would never become world champion again as long as he was still competing. This would’ve been a true statement had Rollins not “injured” himself during a Saturday Night’s Main Event match with L.A. Knight. Many wondered if his injury would prevent him from cashing in his Money in the Bank contract, and despite the difficult situation WWE found themselves in, they continued Punk’s chase to become World Heavyweight champion. As Punk stood tall over Gunther at SummerSlam, hoisting the world title up in the air, Rollins’ music suddenly hit, and out came Rollins with a crutch, but it was all a ruse. Rollins was never actually injured; he had only faked an injury to cash in his briefcase when Punk was most vulnerable. Rollins had now replicated the Heist of the Century and crowned himself World Heavyweight champion for the second time in his career.

Rollins continued to make life difficult for Punk as they would cost him the opportunity to regain the title when Becky Lynch, Rollins’ real-life wife, helped Rollins retain the title at Clash in Paris. Now that Punk is in line for a world title opportunity once again, why not make Punk believe that he has the whole world in his hands? WWE has already proven they were willing to fake an injury to keep the unpredictability of Rollins's cashing in from being leaked. WWE went as far as including the smallest of details to make people believe that Rollins was truly injured. From camera shots avoiding Rollins to a quick finish to the match, WWE is more than capable of taking their talent off shows to make the fans believe a false narrative.

One would have to wonder if Breakker and Reed attacking and turning on Rollins is all part of a setup to deceive Punk into believing his path to the world title will be without distraction. What if Rollins planned the attack all along once Punk became the number one contender? If Rollins really wanted to prevent Punk from winning the title, wouldn’t he just have Breakker and Reed attack Punk as much as possible to have him weak before their world title match? Strangely, Rollins would be kicked from the group despite their recent success. Or maybe this is all to make Punk believe that Breakker and Reed will be nowhere to be found once their match happens? One of Rollins’ nicknames is the Architect after all, maybe this is all part of the master plan in his vision to be at the top of the mountain in WWE.

If Rollins’ injury turns out to be legitimate, then fans will wish him all the very best in his recovery. As things stand, however, no one really knows what lies ahead for Rollins. He might be heading onto the shelves for a couple of months to heal his body, or WWE has once again played the fans as fools, and Rollins will have fooled Punk once again. Whatever it may be, the fans should always expect the unexpected.
