Is the 2026 Men’s NCAA Basketball Top Portal Player Headed to Knoxville?
A month has passed since the transfer portal opened, the dust has settled, and rosters are finally coming to completion. A majority of the best available transfer talent have already claimed a new home. Now, the college basketball world has its eyes on one player, sophomore wing Juke Harris. The six-foot-seven star averaged 21.4 points and just under seven rebounds at Wake Forest, earning him the One Sports’ top spot in the transfer portal rankings. After a NIL battle between Dusty May and the Michigan Wolverines and Rick Barnes and the Tennessee Volunteers, a winner may finally be emerging from the pact. As rumors swirl, it is being reported that the 200-pound guard will be committing to Knoxville in a matter of weeks.
According to Yahoo Sports writer Dakota Allen, the leader of the rock top squad, Rick Barnes, is pushing for a last-dance mentality as retirement lingers in the shadows for the veteran coach. Money is not the issue, as an NIL evaluation shows both programs are willing to pay three million plus for the standout transfer, even possibly up to five million. So, how are the Volunteers the frontrunners for Harris’ commitment? Two factors, familiarity and the chance to be the guy.
The University of Tennessee heavily recruited the North Carolina native out of high school. The family and the top portal player reportedly strongly considered heading to Knoxville before committing to Wake Forest. The Harris family seems to be more comfortable in orange and white than in the maze and blue. The previous relationship never dissolved, which may go a long way for coach Barnes.
Tennessee is also willing to give the keys to the program to the scoring guard. Harris would slide into the SF position and become the guy for the Volunteers. A very enticing deal, as Barnes has a great history with wing development. The sophomore fits the mold for Rock Top’s big-wing, elite scorer past. Dalton Knecht is the most recent shining example of this. A tactical fit, the top portal player would be in complete control of the Tennessee squad. Harris would be able to showcase his skill and continue to develop into an NBA-level talent with a proven program.
The battle for Harris seems to be nearing its conclusion. After a long month of rumors and speculations, it looks as if the Volunteers will be locking in the commitment of this prized player. As Rick Barnes approaches the end of a phenomenal career, he hopes this portal snag is enough to finally get to the mountain top. While nothing is official, expect an announcement sooner than later.
