Is ‘The Notorious’ Finally Coming Back To The UFC?
Within the last week, there has been significant speculation regarding Conor McGregor’s UFC return and his potential comeback to the Octagon. ‘The Notorious’ took to X to announce that he is open to facing a “no name” opponent for his next bout, even confirming that he is ready to fight by asking the UFC to send a contract. Days before that post, McGregor also tweeted that he had been offered an opponent and had accepted. However, UFC president Dana White later confirmed that this was not true. As a result, the Irish fighter’s return date remains uncertain, leaving some fans wondering whether he will make an appearance at all this year.
McGregor’s last fight took place in 2021 against Dustin Poirier in their trilogy bout at UFC 264, where the contest ended in a TKO via doctor’s stoppage after McGregor suffered a broken ankle in the first round. Since then, McGregor has been involved in ventures outside the cage, including serving as a coach on The Ultimate Fighter in 2023 and starring alongside Jake Gyllenhaal in a 2024 film. Following the film’s release, McGregor was scheduled to face Michael Chandler at UFC 303 in a highly anticipated return. However, the former two-division champion withdrew from the bout due to a toe injury. That setback further delayed his return and intensified questions about whether he would compete again.
His last victory came more than six years ago against Donald Cerrone, where McGregor looked like his prime self and finished ‘Cowboy’ in 40 seconds. It has been quite some time since ‘The Notorious’ has seen a UFC victory, and the fighter still insists that he will return to the roster; many questions still remain. Not only do we not know who or when McGregor is fighting, but also at what weight class he would fight at, since many fans have noted how much muscle he has put on since his last fight. The 37-year-old has announced that he’s been in fight camp and has even posted some sparring footage. In such an exciting year for the UFC since their switch to Paramount, there is no doubt that a McGregor return would be very exciting for all MMA fans across the globe.
