Jalen Ramsey Reunion in L.A.; All Signs Point Toward a Rams-Dolphins Trade

NFL

Jalen Ramsey’s potential return to the Los Angeles Rams feels less like speculation and more like an inevitability. He played there once before—won a Super Bowl, earned the love of a fanbase, and left a legacy. The Rams notably passed on drafting a cornerback in the 2025 NFL Draft, a move that raised eyebrows across the league given the position’s perceived importance. However, it may have been a calculated choice, with a bigger, bolder plan in mind: bringing back their former All-Pro.

“He’s a great player. We know him very well. We know him intimately,” Rams Head Coach Sean McVay said this weekend when asked about Ramsey, who was traded to the Dolphins last year in a cap-saving move. That "intimacy" McVay referenced is rooted in success. Ramsey was a cornerstone of the Rams' defense when they captured Super Bowl LVI. Even now, McVay admits he and Ramsey have “really stayed in touch,” and so have several members of the coaching staff. The connection is strong and the need is real.

Here’s where the numbers align perfectly. Ramsey’s 2025 cap hit is $16.67 million. The Rams currently have $17.7 million in cap space. It's the most flexibility they’ve had in years, and it just so happens to match one very specific contract. This is no coincidence. To sweeten the deal, Ramsey’s contract carries no guaranteed money beyond this season. That gives the Rams a built-in escape hatch if the reunion doesn’t pan out—making it a low-risk, high-reward scenario.

Miami has more reason than ever to part ways with the 29-year-old cornerback. Not only are they open to trading him, but a post-June deal would save them $5.9 million in dead money by spreading his cap hits over multiple years. From a financial standpoint, it’s a matter of when, not if. Rams GM Les Snead recently confirmed the team has had conversations with the Dolphins. Though he wasn’t sure “where Miami is at in the process.” NFL insider Ian Rapoport has reported that the Rams are one of several teams that have expressed interest in Ramsey. With training camp still months away and Ramsey well-versed in McVay’s system, the Rams have no pressure to rush. Timing, patience, and familiarity are all on their side.

Acquiring Ramsey again wouldn’t just fill a hole in the secondary—it would signal that the Rams are all-in on contending in 2025. With stars like Aaron Donald retired and Matthew Stafford on the back nine of his career, this could be one last push with a group that already knows how to win together. It’s rare when the business side of football perfectly complements the emotional and strategic angles. However, that’s what we’re seeing unfold here. Is Jalen Ramsey going to wear the horns again? It’s starting to feel like more than a reunion—it might be destiny.
