Jets Starters Shine in Blowout Win Against Green Bay
In the first game of the 2025 NFL Preseason for the New York Jets, they took down the Green Bay Packers 30-10. Throughout the week leading up to the game, new head coach Aaron Glenn discussed how starting most of the prominent players on the team would lead to boosting chemistry, and from the jump, it was clear to see that this helped. Quarterback Justin Fields was able to show Jets fans what they can expect from him this season, and some unlikely heroes put points up on the board. While there’s a lot to clean up before the season begins, this game was a great stepping stone for the new-look team and coaching regime.
Accountability From the New Coach
Despite training camp woes from more than a few starters, Glenn never wavered in the new mantras he preached to his players. Unlike the previous coaching staff, Glenn is holding the players accountable for the attitude they put on the field, as well as the mistakes they make. During the first quarter, defensive lineman Micheal Clemons got into an argument on the field after drawing an offsides penalty. While Clemons is certainly known for this behavior, Glenn wasn’t allowing any of this to occur in the first game of the preseason. Clemons was removed from the game, showing fans that Glenn is serious about his ideas surrounding discipline and accountability.
Training Camp Struggles Left Behind
Among the key starters that Glenn put on the field for this game was Fields. Throughout the first weeks of training camp, Fields hasn’t looked the sharpest, and there were concerns that this would continue throughout the preseason. In his only possession of the game, Fields concocted a 79-yard touchdown drive, capped off by a 13-yard rush for the touchdown. Fields’ passing looked much better, but more importantly, the rushing looked next-level. With several options on the ground, the Jets are going to rely on their rushing game, and it’s great to see Fields joining in on the action. Running backs Breece Hall and Braelon Allen also got touches, with Allen showing his speed on a 14-yard run up the middle. While Hall is projected to be RB1, Allen has a shot at earning similar touches throughout the season if he is able to keep it up.
Some Usual Jets Issues
With all of the good news from this game, there has to be some disappointing news. After the game, wide receiver Allen Lazard was spotted in a sling protecting his right shoulder. According to Glenn, Lazard will have tests to determine how severe this injury may be. In addition to an injury to a potential key player, the Jets also struggled heavily with penalties, mostly on the defensive side of the ball. The 2024 Jets were no strangers to penalties, owning the most in the entire league with 137. The team certainly has to clean this up before the regular season starts.
