KC Current is the First to Secure a Spot in the NWSL Playoffs and Sets Sights on the Championship

Before the start of Week 18 in the NWSL season, KC Current had earned their spot in the 2025 playoffs. This announcement shouldn’t come as a surprise to anyone, given the way this team has dominated this season. Now with a total of 15 wins, two losses, and one draw out of a total of 18 games, the Current remains in first place. The only question now is where the Current finishes the season in seeding and if they can grab their first-ever championship.

The Current has now been the first NWSL team to snatch their spot in the playoffs after winning their match against the North Carolina Courage, 2-0, last night. Yesterday confirmed that the Current is still the only NWSL team this season to remain undefeated on their home turf. Late yesterday, after their win, the KC Current came out with an official statement from head coach Vlatko Andonovski, claiming that “Our goal is to come out as a group and be the best that we can possibly be in every game we play. We have a rule: We celebrate tonight, we rest tomorrow, and we get ready for the next one.” With more games now set for their future, what will this mean for the Current and the rest of their season?

It is undeniable that KC Current has been an unstoppable force this year. Their dangerous offense, especially when considering players like Temwa Chawinga, has proven that the Current is capable of dominating offensive plays. The defense similarly demonstrates strong formations, making it difficult for opponents to easily get by. The team’s ability to transition aggressively and almost instantly from defense to attack, catching their opponents off guard and continuing relentless pressure, is something that adds to their versatility and strength as a team. When looking at how the rest of the season will conclude, the KC Current has what it takes to win the NWSL 2025 Season Championship. Without looking at the fact that they are points ahead of other teams in this season, the Current is filled with various outstanding players who have been proving themselves this year, all while working effectively in solid cohesion. If the Current continues to maintain this level of play, they could very well turn their dominant season into a championship-winning legacy.

As the playoffs draw closer, all eyes will be on the Current to see if they can sustain their continuous momentum this season. Their dominance on the field this year has, again, been thanks to the team’s talent, tactical skills, and determination for the ball. However, as teams and players move toward the end of the 2025 season, it has been an amazing experience watching the Current lead the way, putting them in a favored position with many hoping they will win the Championship. Only time will tell, but the KC Current truly has a bright future and legacy ahead of them.
