Launching a New Era: Giants Betting Big on the Deep Ball

NFL

The Giants are working daily to see what needs to be fixed for the upcoming 2025 season. This year, they may have a chance to make the playoffs and possibly even reach the Super Bowl if they can develop a better plan for the upcoming season. They now have a new veteran quarterback, Russell Wilson, who was signed to the Big Blue roster earlier in the season. The team is banking on his trademark vertical throws this season. These passes can make all the difference if the Giants keep up with them this off-season and on the playing field.

Last season, while Wilson played with the Pittsburgh Steelers, he led the NFL with a 54 percent completion rate on his passes of 20+ yards and carried a 93.7 ball grade. This is huge territory for any quarterback around the NFL. It puts Wilson in as an elite quarterback and precisely the type of person that head coach Brian Daboll is looking for. This former Super Bowl champion is the next weapon for the team that they are ready to use this coming season.

Daboll was thrilled with everything Wilson did during the Giants' most recent OTAs. He could use his deep ball pass to get it to his receivers, both Malik Nabers and Jalin Hyatt. Both players are explosive when they put their best foot forward on the field. They know how to track the deep ball, and most of the time, these two can catch it. If they add tight end Theo Johnson to the mix, the Giants will have a near-perfect vertical passing game. This is an area that they have struggled in for the last several years.

This whole thing is ideal for Wilson. He may have had a rough start, but having players that he will actually be able to work with and a team that he can trust on the field may make all the difference for them this coming season. The Giants had an ugly finish with five explosive plays last season. However, if Wilson's deep passing game continues, he may have better numbers and explosive plays this coming year.
