New Orleans Saints DE Breaks Record of Renowned Former Player
At the end of each of your elementary, middle, or high school years, there was probably an awards ceremony in the auditorium or gymnasium. Plaques would be handed out to students who had accomplished a specific goal that year, such as excellence in academics, sports, and community service. You may recall another achievement that was earned due to one or several of your classmates having had perfect attendance. Later, as an adult, you realize attendance records are still important, particularly for you to maintain your employment. The same applies to professional athletes whose participation in events is recorded among their stats. In the NFL, there are separate numbers to indicate games played and games started in an offensive or defensive position. As of today, New Orleans Saints player and eight-time Pro Bowler DE Cam Jordan’s stats will indicate that he played his 229th regular-season game.
Almost all NFL fans will tell you that QB Drew Brees is one of the most famous players on the New Orleans Saints and among the best quarterbacks in the league. This is because, aside from leading his team to their only Super Bowl victory, he holds numerous NFL records, which include the second-most career passing yards and touchdowns. Within the New Orleans Saints’ history, he set the franchise record of 228 regular-season games when he retired from the league at the conclusion of the 2020 season. By the end of that same season, another one of his teammates, DE Cam Jordan, whose professional football career began when the Saints drafted him in 2011 the first round with the 24th overall pick, had played 160 games in which he had 94.5 sacks, 514 combination tackles of which 346 were solo, and participated in six Pro Bowls. Given his performance at that point as a defensive end, he didn’t appear to be leaving the field any time soon. Jordan would continue to play another 66 games throughout the 2021 and 2024 seasons, during which he would add another 27 sacks, 202 combination tackles of which 116 were solo, and participated in two more Pro Bowls. As of this current regular season, 36-year-old Cam has played in all three games, already acquiring 1.5 sacks, eight combination tackles, of which five were solo.
For his record-breaking accomplishment, this player will forever be remembered in the history of the New Orleans Saints. Aside from the media’s reporting of today’s loss in a road game against the Seattle Seahawks, hopefully, this “win” for the team will be mentioned. Any victory, including that by a single player, is a win for the entire team. Congratulations to you, Mr. Cam Jordan, on your attendance record! Best wishes to you on reaching 250, 300, and 329 games in your professional career. Hopefully, there’s a plaque or certificate awarded to you in the presence of a packed Superdome at the start of the next home game on October 5th.
