New York Jets Announce Team Captains for 2025

NFL

The New York Jets have announced their captains for the 2025 season. The team announced six captains for the coming year, some new and some recurring. These players are a mix of long-time veterans of the team and players who have only been with the team for a couple of seasons. With a new coaching staff in place, it's a good indication of who has quickly earned the trust of both the coaches and the locker room.

Justin Fields, QB

Justin Fields being named a captain was one of the least surprising announcements of the offseason, and not because he is the quarterback. Throughout the offseason, teammates and coaches alike have raved about Field's leadership and his demeanor. A big reason that the Jets signed him was because of his locker room presence. Teammates gravitate towards him because of his quiet confidence, and coaches love him for his work ethic.

Quinnen Williams, DT

Star defensive tackle Quinnen Williams will serve his third season as team captain in 2025. Quinnen has been a staple on the Jets’ defensive line since he was drafted in 2019. His leadership has been well documented, and he has clearly made a good impression on the new coaching staff. Williams is entering his sixth year as a pro and will now serve his third year in a row with a "C" on his chest.

Alijah Vera-Tucker, OG

Alijah Vera-Tucker is the Jets' longest-tenured offensive lineman. He was a first-round pick back in 2021 and has been a stalwart for the team ever since he was drafted. He suffered significant injuries in two of his seasons with the Jets, but has started every game that he has been active in. Vera-Tucker is a first-time captain on the Jets, but was a captain in college at USC.

Jamien Sherwood, LB

Jamien Sherwood was someone the new staff had liked from the start. They proved this by signing him to a new deal right at the beginning of the offseason, and his captain status shows that his teammates feel the same way about him. Sherwood broke out, filling in for C.J. Mosley in 2024, tying for the NFL lead in solo tackles with 95 and garnering an All-Pro vote in the process. Sherwood will continue his leadership on and off the field in 2025 with a shiny new captain's patch on his jersey.

Garrett Wilson, WR

Garrett Wilson is a team captain for the first time in his career, and it is long overdue. Wilson has been a standout ever since he was drafted back in 2022, and his leadership has been a major part of his tenure. He is a staple on both the roster and in the community. After being rewarded earlier this offseason with a new contract, he is now rewarded by his teammates with a spot as a team captain.

Marcelino McCrary-Ball, LB

Marcelino McCrary-Ball entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2022 with the 49ers and has spent the past two seasons on both the Jets' active roster and practice squad. Last season, McCrary-Ball's playing time increased significantly, seeing him play 200 snaps on special teams. He will most likely continue to spend most of his time on special teams, but that does not make him any less of a locker room leader. He stood out enough to teammates for them to vote him as a captain of this 2025 Jets team.
