New York Jets Win Second Game of the Season Against the Cleveland Browns

NFL

The New York Jets are starting to heat up. After a nightmare 0-7 start, the team has rattled off two wins in a row. Coming out of an eventful week which saw them trade two of their stars in Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, the team looked as motivated as ever against a Cleveland Browns team with a strong defense. The team was led by a special teams explosion, a strong running game, and a one-man wrecking crew on defense.

Special Teams Dominates

The Jets’ first-year special teams coordinator Chris Banjo was a happy man watching his unit play today. The team’s returners spotted them 14 points in the first quarter. Kene Nwangwu took a kickoff back 99 yards to the house early in the game, and on the following drive, punt returner Isaiah Williams took back a punt for a 74-yard score. Nwangwu is one of the better return men in the league when healthy, and showed off his ability on his long return. Williams has continued to develop more as a returner and receiver throughout the season, making a key play in the win over Cleveland.

Will McDonald Has a Career Day

Will McDonald absolutely dominated the Cleveland Browns’ offensive line, racking up a career-high four sacks in one game. McDonald was completely unstoppable, single-handedly ending drives on multiple occasions. McDonald had been criticized by fans earlier in the season for his lack of production since Week One, but has silenced them the last two games, making legitimate impact plays. McDonald’s four sacks were also coupled with sacks by Jermaine Johnson and Quincy Williams, totaling six on the day for the Jet defense.

Breece Hall Carries the Jets Offense

A week ago, there was uncertainty that Breece Hall would even be on the team for this game. Despite all the trade rumors, however, the Jets decided not to move Hall at the deadline, and will now look to keep him as a key piece in their offense for the rest of this season and possibly beyond. At least for this week, the decision seems to be a good one, as Hall had another great performance, tallying 125 total yards, including a special-looking run on a screen pass that just saw him outrun the entire Browns defense. Hall is a main cog in the Jets’ offense, and his performance against a strong Cleveland team showed he can be a valuable piece down the road.
