Possible Free Agent RB to Add to the Saints

NFL

Throughout the week, New Orleans Saints fans were anticipating that today’s game would be the one to turn the team’s losing season around. After a demoralizing 31-point loss in Seattle, there would be many issues to address on their return to “The Big Easy,” particularly the low amount of points scored. There are some incredible and recognizable players on the team, such as RB Alvin Kamara, who, for eight seasons, has been integral to their offense. In the 2024 season, the 30-year-old running back scored six touchdowns, had 68 receptions, and rushed for a career best of 950 yards. After four games into this current season, Kamara has 13 receptions, rushed for 256 yards, and one total touchdown. Due to his awareness of his essential role on the team, he is probably exercising some amount of caution whenever he is given the ball. If he becomes injured, his team will lose one of their few reliable scorers and playmakers. The other running back, recent-draftee Devin Neal, was regarded as a great addition to the Saints. However, it’s still undetermined if Neal could be a potential replacement for Kamara due to having not taken the field in a professional game. To solve this dilemma and look ahead to a possible scenario without the former Tennessee Volunteer, let’s look at strengthening their offense. The Saints’ coaching staff should consider speaking to current free agent and veteran RB Zack Moss, who was released at the end of July by the Cincinnati Bengals.

Moss began his NFL career when he was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the third round of the 2020 NFL draft as the 86th overall pick. During his rookie season with the Bills, he would go on to have 112 carries, 481 rushing yards, and score four touchdowns. Remaining in Buffalo for the following season would see a slight decline with 96 carries, 345 rushing yards, and again scoring four touchdowns. Moss’ 2022 season would have him playing for the first five games for the Bills and then being traded to the Indianapolis Colts, where he would play for the remaining eight games. He would add 93 carries, 456 rushing yards, and one touchdown to his resume. Continuing as a member of the Colts in 2023, Moss would finish with 183 carries, 794 rushing yards, and a career high of five touchdowns. Those incredible numbers obviously got the attention of the Cincinnati Bengals, who, in March of 2024, signed him onto their team as their starting running back. Before missing the rest of that season after being placed on injured reserve with a neck injury on November 5th, he had already recorded 74 carries for 242 yards and two touchdowns.

A player who isn’t the quarterback shouldn’t have to feel he has to carry his team to victory every week. If that one player becomes injured or exhausted, a suitable replacement must be immediately ready to go without interrupting the pace of the game. You’ll want that player to be able to take to the field at a moment’s notice and run the ball to the endzone. Following the recovery from his injury, the 30-year-old Kamara probably has the motivation to contribute to a team if he is given the chance. The absence from the previous season due to his injury may work in his favor because he is still regarded as vital to any team. With Alvin Kamara as his teammate, there may be no stopping Kamara and Moss from turning this team’s luck around.
