Premier League is Testing Out a Possible Streaming Service in Singapore
For the 2026-2027 season, the Premier League will launch a new direct-to-customer streaming service for fans in Singapore. The news came on February 26th, 2026, from Richard Masters, who is the Premier League’s chief executive. Masters said the streaming service will be called Premier League Plus. This new streaming service will be available to Singaporean fans in partnership with StarHub, which is a Singaporean telecommunications company. The service will mirror Netflix in its setup and feature all 380 matches. Masters states, “From next season onward, from August, Premier League Plus is going to happen. For the first time, the Premier League will have its own customers. We’re looking to build a business, but we’re also looking to learn to see how that might be replicable around the world.”
Premier League fans in England mainly rely on SkySports for their match viewing. However, England does have blackout laws that restrict broadcasts for certain matches in order to encourage supporters to attend matches live. Ticket prices have been rising for some clubs, and with Manchester United’s owners floating the idea of fans having to purchase tickets and seat licenses, the prices for in-person matches have never been higher. Even watching matches from the comfort of one’s own home is not cheap either. For fans in England, they must have four different streaming services to watch the Premier League, the Carabao Cup, and the FA Cup. Those expenses for the four streaming services come to £63.98, which is $86.32.
For fans in the United States, they only need two streaming services. Most matches are streamed on Peacock, and the price for the normal monthly subscription is $10.99. The premium plan for Peacock is $16.99 per month. Then, fans must add the cost of their cable TV or YouTube TV subscription to get the USA Channel. Fans stateside must also have additional subscriptions if they want to watch the FA Cup, Carabao Cup, or any UEFA competitions like the Champions League or Europa League. The prices are starting to rack up for all fans in order to watch their favorite teams. The chance to have all of the Premier League matches in one place can remove most of the subscription fees, especially for US fans.
This new Premier League Studio and Premier League Plus could pose a huge challenge to SkySports and TNT, which are the main broadcasters for English fans. The two companies currently have a package deal split between the two of them that is worth £6.7 billion. The teams and clubs of the Premier League will also be affected as their own broadcast revenue might be impacted by the change. The experiment in Singapore will determine if Premier League Plus will be rolled out for the rest of the world.
