Progress, Not Perfection: Giants End the Year with a Win Over Dallas
The New York Football Giants' season came to a close today after playing against the Dallas Cowboys. The Giants finished their season on a high note, beating Dallas 17-34. The Giants also finished their season today with a total record of 4-13. Big Blue struggled all season, but they pulled off wins in their last two games. It wasn't easy for them, but this game definitely played a role in leading them into their offseason. Following the end of the Giants' season, they will continue to discuss the team's future and rebuild.
The Offense Looked Solid
The Giants had several players who played their hearts out during this classic rivalry matchup. It was the first time in a while that the Giants proved they can make plays when they try to get the ball up the field. Offensively, Big Blue went above and beyond to get things done. Since the release of former head coach Brian Daboll earlier this season, New York has started to really turn how they play around. Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart made contact with several of his receivers during this game. The Giants have also worked together on passing the ball to one another in plays where they struggle to get the ball out. This game turned out to be Dart's best performance all season. He went for 19 out of 28 passes for 213 yards, getting two explosive touchdowns on the board with tight end Daniel Bellinger and running back Tyrone Tracy Jr.
Dart wasn't the only one who had a great day offensively on the field. Wan'Dale Robinson did not play due to being out with a rib injury. Dart's backup in today's game was Tracy, who was able to get the ball and break through on multiple occasions, just as much as Devin Singletary did. Tracy went for 135 yards in total during today's game. Not many players on the Giants have been able to do this in weeks, and he was the first in a long time, putting the Giants back on the Map.
The Defensive Line Didn't Leave Gaps
It wasn't just the offensive line that pulled its weight in today's game. It was the defensive line, too. Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott came out early in today's game and was replaced by Joe Milton. The Giants stopped the Cowboys' offense multiple times. They had a balanced attack, and during the third quarter, the Giants jumped in and intercepted at least two passes from Milton, giving them at least two turnovers. This defensive line really stepped up and put an end to where Dallas had wanted to go. The defensive line also closed the gaps that they found early on in the game. With former defensive coach Shane Bowen gone, the Giants have improved and worked harder to stop opponents. It was a positive sign for the Giants' defensive line.
The Giants Stayed Collected
The Giants looked like a solid team in this matchup. They stayed composed early on and proved they could beat Dallas, leaving this game and their season on a high note. In past matchups, the Giants were always behind, and Dallas made a point of jumping ahead. They stayed very physical and very aggressive when it came to what they wanted. This shows growth and stability among this young team that both the franchise and the fans have been waiting for all season long.
The Giants did not go out to lose today's game, as many had hoped, so that they could stay in the top draft pick. They are still in the top ten but have slipped slightly down the list. They can be anywhere between the third and the sixth-round pick. Where Big Blue will land all depends on what happens around the league. They have to hope they get a decent spot and find someone who can fill the gaps next season. It all depends on what the offseason rebuild looks like and how the rest of the franchise will go about it.
