Ramsey Uncertainty Halts Dolphins Pursuit of Former Green Bay Packer CB
The Miami Dolphins had a serious interest in cornerback Jaire Alexander, but timing and hesitation cost them. According to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, Miami reached out to gauge the former All-Pro’s availability but ultimately held back from further pursuing. The reason? Ongoing uncertainty surrounding Jalen Ramsey’s roster spot and future with the team made it difficult for Miami to commit to anything serious. The Dolphins discussed internally whether Alexander’s sudden availability could be turned into a valuable opportunity. Miami had a clear interest in adding Alexander. The two-time Pro Bowler would have instantly wiped away some of the issues Ramsey has created with his ongoing absence and unpredictable future. Rightfully so, Alexander wasn’t willing to wait on the sidelines while the saga played out. With no resolution in sight, Miami chose to take a backseat.
That hesitation opened the door for the Baltimore Ravens, who quickly signed Alexander to a one-year deal worth four million dollars, with up to two million dollars in incentives. This addition gives an already Super Bowl-contending team another elite defensive piece with playoff experience. Moves like this are what separate aggressive contenders from teams still searching for answers and waiting too long to act.
For the Dolphins, it felt like yet another missed opportunity under general manager Chris Grier. The cornerback room remains a concern, and Grier has yet to make a meaningful upgrade at a position that desperately needs one. Barry Jackson also reported weeks ago that the Dolphins made an offer to Bills free agent corner Rasul Douglas, and there remains a possibility the two sides could revisit that deal. Douglas isn’t the only cornerback on Miami’s radar; Asante Samuel Jr is also a potential target.
The Jalen Ramsey saga has impacted everything, from roster flexibility and defensive planning to locker-room dynamics. Once that situation is finally resolved, the focus must shift fully to 2025 and what this team is trying to become. One way or another, Miami needs help at the cornerback position before Week One. The front office can’t afford to sit on its hands any longer; the pressure is on, and the time to act is now.
