Ranking Every Starting AFC East Quarterback

NFL

The AFC used to be dominated by one premier quarterback. Of course, I am talking about the greatest quarterback of all time, Tom Brady. However, since Brady departed from the Patriots, there has been a new generation of quarterbacks that have taken over the AFC East. Although we don’t know all the quarterbacks that will be starting each of the AFC East teams yet, let’s speculate which team will have the best quarterback situation heading into the 2025 season.

1. Josh Allen - Buffalo Bills

This ranking shouldn’t surprise anyone who watches football. Only delusional fans would say that Josh Allen isn’t the best quarterback in the AFC East. Josh Allen was drafted by the Bills as a project quarterback, and he is one of the only project quarterbacks to pan out for the team that drafted them. Every NFL team wishes it could have a guy who is tall, fast, and can throw the ball with power and tremendous accuracy. He deserved the MVP last year because, without him commanding the Bills’ offense, the team likely wouldn’t have won more than nine games last season. There is no reason he shouldn’t be considered the best quarterback in the AFC East heading into next season.

2. Drake Maye - New England Patriots

This ranking is not based on the performance of these quarterbacks last year. Drake Maye should hopefully have a big transformation in this new Patriots offense. With the defense being revamped this offseason, there should be less pressure on the Patriots offense to score. This combined with the acquisition of Stefon Diggs should help Drake Maye develop. Expect a massive improvement in Drake Maye and this Patriots offense next season with Mike Vrabel at the helm.

3. Justin Fields - New York Jets

After yet another failed quarterback experience, Justin Fields seems to be the successor to Aaron Rodgers in New York. Fields was not utilized in Pittsburgh with Russell Wilson getting the starting role during his time there. However, what Fields should provide for the Jets will significantly improve this offense. Aaron Rodgers was an incredibly stagnant quarterback, but Field’s mobility should help this offensive line in both run and pass protections. If Fields can improve his throwing accuracy to complement his athletic traits, he should be a decent improvement from Aaron Rodgers.

4. Tua Tagovailoa - Miami Dolphins

Dolphins fans are going to be upset that I placed Tua Tagovailoa dead last in the AFC East quarterback rankings. However, Tua continues to have major injury concerns that rear their ugly head each season. Tua can certainly be accurate with his throws, but that may be the only thing he has going for him. He is undersized, injury-prone, and can’t make things happen on broken plays. Despite having great weapons at his disposal for several years, the Dolphins can’t seem to win games consistently with Tua as their quarterback.
