Seahawks Offense Criticized After Dismal Season Opener
The 2025 NFL season kicked off this past Sunday for most teams. Some of them were great games that could be considered “Game of the Year”; others were complete blowouts from start to finish. Even the teams that won had some problems that should have been ironed out in the offseason before coming into the regular season. Despite a four-point loss to the 49ers, things still got pretty messy for the Seattle Seahawks. It was not too terrible a loss to start the season, but more things could’ve had a decent amount of improvement, all things considered.
CBS sports analyst John Breech had some of his own comments on yesterday’s game. “It’s definitely too early to judge, but after one game, Sam Darnold doesn’t seem like an upgrade from Geno Smith.” Breech had commented briefly on the manner. Though with mistake after mistake just piling up, it was concerning, similar to how a football team piles on top of each other in a huge tackle motion. It didn’t seem like any right cards were being played in Darnold’s favor that whole game. Breech had added on to that point, saying, “Jaxon Smith-Njigba, who hauled 124 out of Darnold’s 150 passing yards, also lost a key fumble in the second half. The offense wasn’t able to get anything going on the ground either on a day where the rushing attack averaged just 3.2 yards per carry.”
Considering what happened in this game and blending in what has happened in the past, it does not seem like the best strategy for Seattle. Amongst all the shake-ups that had happened in the offseason coming into the 2025 season, hopes of trying to get a better grip on the team itself are crucial for Seattle’s success. With how much of a bad start Sam Darnold had for this game alone, things are looking pretty grim for Seattle if they keep up this track record that they set for themselves. As for the future in terms of Darnold’s ability to shine, that is more of a wait-and-see situation for the upcoming games this season.
