Seahawks QB Torn to Shreds by CBS Analyst

NFL

The NFL preseason always starts slow; you could feel how uninteresting the 23-23 tie game was between the Seattle Seahawks and the Las Vegas Raiders. Seahawks fans were able to get a firsthand look at the team’s newest rookies, including quarterback Jalen Milroe. The third-round pick from Alabama gave Seattle hope that he can develop into the team’s starting quarterback down the line, as he put up some great moments in this game. Yet, Drew Lock, the Seahawks' starting quarterback, was heavily criticized by CBS analyst Garrett Podell.

Lock finished the game 12 for 22 with a touchdown and an interception. After the game, Podell had to say this about Lock’s performance: “Backup quarterback Drew Lock started Thursday night in place of starter Sam Darnold, and his interception was pretty cringey. The Seahawks' offensive line blocked up the Raiders' pass rush well, allowing him to throw from a clean pocket. Rookie wide receiver Tory Horton, his intended target on the play, had his man beat by a step or two when Lock released the football, but the pass was completely underthrown. That's how the play ended as an interception for Raiders safety Isaiah Pola-Mao.” To be on the positive side, Lock was able to get Horton wide open on that play, and by the end of the night Horton finished with three catches for 31 yards and a touchdown, but could have went for much more within the stat sheet.

The former Giants quarterback has the knowledge and the veteran status to know how to make his plays seem less cringeworthy, whether it's by the opinion of a sports analyst or even just his own feelings on how he played when reviewing the playback film. Lock knows himself better than anyone else, so he should know what choices he has to make in order to fix this lousy mistake on his behalf. While it's still the preseason and there’s still time to fix this issue, among a lot of other issues that may likely seep through the cracks for the rest of the preseason as well as the regular season. Time is not exactly unlimited when it comes to the NFL; sometimes it has to be a gameday decision, sometimes it is made well in advance, even for Drew Lock himself.
