Should the Giants Fix the Offense or the Defense?
The 2025 NFL Draft is almost less than a week away, and thoughts of what the Giants are going to do are still swirling around the NFL. They have plenty of choices that they can go with at Number Three. They have contemplated picking up a quarterback despite signing two veterans to the roster. If the Giants decided not to go the quarterback route, they could go with any decision. They choose to go with either Abdul Carter or Travis Hunter, however, the question remains, who would be the better option for the team on either line?
Carter has been among the discussions for the Giants. The linebacker, who is coming out of Penn State, has had an amazing football career so far. He has had a total of 23 career sacks in his career. In 2024, he recorded 12 sacks in the 2023 season. The performance earned him the 2024 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and a unanimous All-American selection. Having stats like this, Carter is one person that the Giants need to look into. The linebacker would be a big factor and be able to make the stops next to both Dexter Lawrence and Brian Burns. The Giants are looking to fill the gap, and Carter would be just the guy to do it.
If the Giants are looking at the other side of the puzzle, the offense, they may look at Hunter, who is coming out of Colorado. Hunter is a former five-star recruit. He plays two different positions on the field. He can play both the cornerback and wide receiver positions. Hunter played 1,450 snaps last season, the most ever in college football. In his Heisman Trophy-winning season, he amassed 96 catches for 1,258 yards and scored 15 touchdowns. Four of those have been scored from the cornerback position.
The Giants have a hard choice to make. They have struggled offensively and have barely scored any touchdowns over the the last few seasons. The Giants have Malik Nabers and Darius Slayton but it can’t be all of them. Putting Hunter in, would make the range of scoring for Big Blue go up. They won’t be as young of a team as they were, especially since they will have experience.
They have also struggled defensively. They need more than Burns and Lawrence to close the gaps of allowing any of their opponents to score during the regular and postseason. Putting Carter in would help on that front. With how many stops he’s had in college, it would allow the Giants to be better than they have been defensively. He knows how to get in the middle of plays and make the stops that need to be made.
On both avenues, the Giants have had to rebuild on both sides. They are basically at the bottom of the league and need to continue on their rebuild. That number three pick is crucial this year, no matter who they draft. Putting in either one of these players will boost the Giants one way or the other. The Giants need to make the right decision for this season. Who it will be remains to be seen.
