Should the New Orleans Saints Target This Offensive Lineman?

NFL

Most of the media’s 2025 attention on the New Orleans Saints has been on the quarterback position. Early in the weeks following the conclusion of the 2024 season, there was a lot of speculation about the future of their starting QB and how it would affect to the upcoming draft. Fortunately, this important decision has been made, allowing the staff to continue the Saints’ rebuild by concerning themselves with additional acquisitions. When they take to the field in September, they will want to proudly show the league the result of their months of effort to create a competitive offensive line. In my previous article, I wanted to help the scouting staff of the Saints by suggesting a current free agent who would be an incredible asset to their defense. I would like to continue my assistance by this time, looking at the offensive line, which would be strengthened by veteran player G Will Hernandez.

Will Hernandez began his NFL career when he was drafted 34th overall in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. During his first three seasons with the Giants, he started as a left guard in 39 of the 45 games he played. In October of the 2020 season, Will tested positive for COVID-19, which briefly sidelined him. In November, he would return to the active roster but only as a backup for the remainder of the season due to losing his position to another player. He would return for the 2021 season, during which he started as a right guard in all 17 games he played and was able to recover a fumble in one of those games. In March of 2022, Hernandez was signed by the Arizona Cardinals, where he continued to start at right guard for 13 games of that season and would return in 2023 to start and play on the offensive line. The 2024 season was looking to be another year on the field for the UTEP product, but it would be cut short due to a knee injury in the Cardinals' Week Five game against the San Francisco 49ers.

If he is signed to a one-year contract with the Saints, Will Hernandez will bring his seven years of professional experience to their offensive line. The Saints have shown they are still looking for veteran players to support their new QB by making him feel protected on the field. At 29 years old, Hernandez will easily fit alongside the age range of the team’s recent additions and have the added benefit of being able to draw from his knowledge of playing for two former teams. If the scouts happen to come across this article in their research, please at least attempt to reach out to Will via the Arizona Cardinals' main office. If that doesn’t work, look into contacting him through social media.
