Six-Time All-Star Waived By 26-27 Sacramento Kings
It has been reported by Shams Charania that six-time all-star DeMar DeRozan has been waived by the Sacramento Kings, making him a top free agent heading into the 26-27 season. Both sides worked collaboratively for a resolution after exploring trade options that did not pan out. Now the 36-year-old becomes a suitor for multiple contenders who would love to have his offensive presence on their team. DeRozan had a partial guarantee on his contract for next season, but he and Sacramento worked on having his release happen. The waiver now pushes Sacramento below both aprons.
This past NBA season, the six-time all-star played in 77 games, averaging 18 points, three rebounds, four assists, and a steal. He shot 50 percent from the field and 33 percent from three. Although the Kings won 40 games during the 2024-2025 season and made the playoffs, Sacramento could not “light the beam” this year, going 22-60, tying for the worst record in the Western Conference. The Kings selected Darius Acuff Jr. with the seventh pick of the 2026 NBA Draft and still have Domantas Sabonis as they look to rebuild without DeRozan.
Throughout the past 10 years of his career, DeRozan has jumped from the Eastern Conference to the Western Conference. Being a Toronto Raptor and traded in the Kawhi Leonard deal back in 2018 that landed him with the San Antonio Spurs. After three seasons, he would become a Chicago Bull and play in the Windy City for three seasons. The six-time all-star spent two years in Sacramento and now will try to find one more home to call permanent for the next few seasons before he calls it a career.
It would be very intriguing to see the 36-year-old back in Toronto again. Paired up with Leonard, the man DeRozan was originally traded for all those years ago, would surely have to make things full circle. Now that the Raptors are built for championship contention for the 26-27 season, the six-time all-star could go after the one thing that’s eluded him his entire career, an NBA Championship. No matter where, DeRozan will sign with a contender.
