Steelers Most Interesting Matchups in 2025

NFL

The 2025 season for the Pittsburgh Steelers promises to be an interesting one, after a very busy offseason. The team would go 10-7 last season, losing in the Wild Card round for the second straight year in a row. Pittsburgh would have quarterback drama all season long between Russell Wilson and Justin Fields, with many fans believing Fields should’ve remained the starting quarterback after he led the team to a 4-2 start. Nevertheless, Wilson would take the reins and lead his team to the playoffs, where they would once again fall short. After both Wilson and Fields departed from the team in the offseason, the Steelers would sign one of the most controversial quarterbacks in the NFL.

Quarterback Aaron Rodgers would sign a one-year deal worth $13.65 million, becoming the Steelers’ brand-new starting quarterback. This acquisition creates some exciting matchups for the Steelers. Their first big matchup will come in Week One, where they will face Rodgers' former team, the New York Jets, at their house. Rodgers would start in 18 games with the Jets, where he would go 6-12 over that span. The record would not tell the whole story, however, with the Jets having many other issues that didn’t just involve Rodgers. The veteran quarterback would throw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. Both sides would agree to part ways after the 2024 season with a brand new head coaching change coming to New York, making this matchup one to watch as Rodgers looks for some revenge on his former team.

Looking ahead at the Steelers’ schedule in Week Eight, they will play the Green Bay Packers. Rodgers would be drafted in 2005 by the Packers, where he would begin his legendary career. Although he would spend two seasons with the Jets, he would never get to face the team that would be synonymous with him forever. Rodgers not only created his legacy in Green Bay but also mentored their now-starting quarterback, Jordan Love. Their friendship has only grown despite Rodgers leaving in 2023. Now, both quarterbacks will have the opportunity to face off against each other in a first-time must-see matchup.

In Week 12, the Steelers will face the Chicago Bears. The history of the Bears and Rodgers goes back to when he was drafted in 2005. Rodgers would be 24-5 against the Bears, including a playoff win against them. The Packers would also have a nine-game winning streak during Rodgers’ tenure. He has not played against the Bears since he left Green Bay, which means he will play them for the first time in nearly three years, where he will get the opportunity to continue his dominance. The Steelers will look to have an impressive year, with plenty of exciting matchups with their new veteran quarterback.
