Steelers Receive Promising Update on Star Running Back’s Injury

NFL

Steelers running back Jaylen Warren didn’t play in the Steelers’ Week Four game against the Minnesota Vikings. He was dealing with a knee injury last week. He was limited in practice on some days. His status was questionable ahead of last weekend. Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin explained why Warren missed the game. He said, “Jaylen was a pregame decision. That’s why we listed him as questionable. He worked out before the game. We just didn’t feel good enough. We didn’t want to put him in a uniform, and then he wouldn’t be able to finish, and then you’re working a guy short. So, we worked him out, and that’s where we settled. Jaylen is a tough guy. He wanted to do it. I just thought it was prudent not to.”

The Steelers have a bye week this week. Warren is expected to play in Week Six. On October 12th, the Steelers will take on the Cleveland Browns at Acrisure Stadium. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. EST. In 2022, Warren signed with the Steelers as an undrafted free agent. Warren spent the past three seasons as a complementary player to Najee Harris. Warren and Harris each eclipsed 1,000 scrimmage yards in 2023. They were the fourth duo in franchise history to eclipse 1,000 scrimmage yards in the same season. In 2023, Warren became the second undrafted running back in franchise history to register back-to-back 100-yard rushing games. Warren signed a two-year contract extension on September 1st, 2025. He’s now under contract with the Steelers through 2027. Throughout his NFL career, Warren has played in 48 regular-season games. He’s amassed 1,806 rushing yards and six rushing touchdowns.

2025 marks Warren’s first season as a starter. He’s impressed Steelers quarterback Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers spoke about Warren’s playing ability. He said, “He brings a lot to the table. Might have to keep giving him more opportunities in the pass game. Every time he touches it, something good happens.”Warren played college football for Snow College before transferring to Utah State in 2019. In 2021, Warren transferred to Oklahoma State University for his senior season. He played in all of Oklahoma State’s games that year, starting in 12. Warren was named the Big 12 Offensive Newcomer of the Year in 2021.
