Steelers Reveal New Throwback Uniforms

NFL

The Steelers have a rich history. The team was established all the way back in 1933. The Steelers are the seventh-oldest franchise in the NFL and are the oldest franchise in the AFC. The Steelers have just revealed their new throwback uniforms for this season. The throwback uniforms pay homage to their long history. Steelers president Art Rooney II said, “We’re excited to unveil our new throwback uniforms, which not only pay tribute to the origins of the Steelers franchise but also to the deep connection we have to our hometown of Pittsburgh. It’s especially fitting that we’ll debut these uniforms on Sunday night, Oct. 26, when we play the Green Bay Packers - another franchise in the league with a long and rich history.”

The gold jerseys feature black vertical striping and oversized white block numbers with black trim. The jerseys feature a City of Pittsburgh crest on the left shoulder. The crest was also on the Steelers’ jerseys in the 1930s. The back of the jerseys features oversized black block numbers for a two-tone black and gold color combination. The pants are khaki-colored, which is the same color as the pants the team wore in 1933. The helmets are gold with a matte finish. There’s a black striping down the middle of the helmets. The helmets, inspired by the Steelers’ designs from the 1930s and 1960s, feature gray facemasks.

Steelers players like the new throwback uniforms. Linebacker Alex Highsmith said, “The first time I saw it, my jaw dropped because we haven’t worn a jersey like that in a while as a team. It’s all so cool. I would say the helmet is my favorite part of it. That yellow matte helmet is just sick. I think it’s a cool new look. And then with the jersey, I love that. I am just really excited to wear it.” Tight end Pat Freiermuth said, “The yellow helmet is sweet. We’ve worn black helmets since I’ve been here, and well before that, and just switching it up to a new helmet I love. It gets players excited. It gets the fans excited. It’s something cool to showcase. After we wear them, I want to keep that helmet forever. It’s super cool.”
