Steelers Reveal Their 2025 Team Captains

NFL

The Steelers and all the other NFL teams have officially trimmed their rosters down to 53 players. Some minor adjustments may be made. However, fans and analysts have a good idea of what each team will look like. The regular season starts this week, with franchises starting to name their team captains for this year. The Steelers have announced their 2025 team captains. Steelers players voted and selected four players as team captains.

In his first year with the team, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is serving as the offensive captain. Rodgers signed a one-year deal with the Steelers on June 5th. This marks the 15th time in his career that Rodgers was named a team captain. He served as captain for 12 of his 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers. He was also captain for both of his years with the New York Jets. His extensive NFL experience and knowledge made him an easy choice for team captain. Rodgers has been named NFL MVP four times—2011, 2014, 2020, and 2021. At 41 years old, he’s currently the oldest starting quarterback in the NFL. He’ll be 42 in December.

Rodgers’ teammates have praised him for his leadership abilities. Steelers rookie quarterback Will Howard was a guest on The Pat McAfee Show on Friday. He discussed Rodgers’ leadership. Howard said, “He expects excellence, and he’s demanding. He’s a great leader. It’s been great to just sit back and watch the way that he operates. I’ve been learning from it and trying to pick his brain as much as I can.”

Defensive tackle Cam Heyward and linebacker TJ Watt are the defensive captains. Safety Miles Killebrew is captain of the special teams unit. This is the 11th consecutive season that Heyward has been named captain. Only quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been a Steelers team captain more times than Heyward. Roethlisberger served as captain 13 times. Heyward had 35 solo tackles and eight sacks during the 2024 season. This is Watt’s fifth year as captain and Killebrew’s fourth year as captain. Watt had 40 solo tackles and 11.5 sacks last season, while Killebrew had eight solo tackles. The Steelers team captains for the 2024 season were quarterback Russell Wilson, Heyward, Watt, and Killebrew. The Steelers play against the Jets in their Week One opener on September 7th at MetLife Stadium. Kickoff is at 1 p.m. EST.
