Steelers Sign Former Pitt Panthers Long Snapper to Practice Squad
Long snapper Christian Kuntz has a knee injury, practicing in a limited capacity on Thursday and Friday. Kuntz is currently listed as questionable for Sunday’s game. The Steelers signed long snapper Cal Adomitis to their practice squad on Friday as a precaution. Even though he has only been in one full practice ahead of the game on Sunday, Adomitis is ready to play if called upon. He said, “My job doesn’t really change no matter where I am, so I’m ready to go if called. I’m trying to enjoy the ride, enjoy being in the black and gold.”
Adomitis is very familiar with the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex in Pittsburgh, as he has worked out there during a handful of offseasons. He got to know Kuntz during those workouts. Adomitis spoke about how he and Kuntz reacted to his joining the Steelers. “Throughout the summers, he and I are both here working out,” Adomitis said. “We are usually our own training partners in the summer with snapping. We were both laughing that it was a weird fever dream being out there, both in a Steelers uniform and practicing. It was definitely a funny day.”
Adomitis was born and raised in Pittsburgh. He attended and played football for Central Catholic High School, earning varsity letters. Adomitis played collegiate football for the Pittsburgh Panthers, winning the Patrick Mannelly Award in 2021. The award is given to the best long snapper in college football. He was also named a first-team All-American in 2021.
Adomitis has played in 58 games throughout his NFL career. In 2022, he signed with the Cincinnati Bengals as an undrafted free agent. He started for three consecutive seasons from 2022 to 2024. The Bengals cut him in August of this year after training camp ended. Adomitis joined the Philadelphia Eagles on September 30th, 2025, playing in nine games for the team before being released on December 9th, 2025.
Adomitis will know soon if he’s playing on Sunday. The deadline for the Steelers to elevate a player from the practice squad to the active roster for the game is on Saturday at 4 p.m. EST. The Steelers play the Detroit Lions at Ford Field on Sunday, with the kick-off at 4:25 p.m. EST. The Steelers are currently 8-6 in the AFC North, while the Lions are currently 8-6 in the NFC North.
