Steelers Starting Quarterback Discusses Friendship with Former Packers Teammate
Former teammates Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love had positive things to say about each other ahead of the Steelers/Packers game on Sunday. Rodgers and Love still have a great relationship. The four-time NFL MVP enjoyed mentoring Love for three seasons. Rodgers said, “I texted with him last week because they had played a couple of common opponents. He's a great kid, man. He really is. I enjoyed my time with him. I'm not surprised by how he’s playing; he’s playing great. His progression was like mine, kind of, where the first year you get your feet wet; the second year, you feel a little bit more confident. By the time the third year comes around, you're ready to play.”
Rodgers spoke about Love succeeding as the Packers’ starting quarterback. He said, “Really happy for him. He’s one of the real good guys in the league. I’m sure his leadership is continuing to grow over there. I like the way he’s playing. He’s super accurate, he’s taking care of the football, he’s being opportunistic, making great throws down the field, and using his legs as well.” When the Super Bowl XLV MVP was drafted by the Packers, quarterback Brett Favre didn’t believe that it was his responsibility to teach him the tricks of the trade. Rodgers made it a point to be a great mentor to Love. The Packers chose Love in the first round of the 2020 NFL Draft. He was the backup quarterback for Rodgers for three years.
The former Utah State QB discussed having Rodgers as his mentor. He explained, “You have heard Aaron talk about how he wanted my relationship with him and my experience in the quarterback room to be different than what he had. So, I’ve got a lot of respect for how he handled it, the way he went about me coming in, and, like I said before, he welcomed me with open arms. He helped me out a ton in the quarterback room. I learned so much from watching him and also hearing him talk in the meeting room. He was great to me.”
Fans and analysts are looking forward to watching Sunday’s high-profile game. The Steelers are in first place in the AFC North at 4-2. The Packers are in first place in the NFC North at 4-1-1. The Steelers will be wearing their 1933 throwback uniforms for the game on Sunday. Kickoff is at 8:20 p.m. EST.
