Steelers to Reveal New Alternate Helmet This Season

NFL

The Steelers are the seventh-oldest team in the entire NFL.  They’re the oldest team in the AFC. The Steelers have one of the most notable uniforms in the league. The team is famous for only having their logo on one side of their helmet. The Steelers’ logo is one of the most iconic logos in the NFL. The Steelers are set to debut a new alternate helmet this year. The Washington Commanders, New Orleans Saints, Los Angeles Chargers, and the Cleveland Browns will also be revealing new helmets. While some of these NFL teams may simply be tweaking their designs, the Steelers will actually be unveiling a second helmet.

Sports Logo’s Andrew Lind remarked, “The Steelers appear to be on the verge of reviving their gold helmets, which they wore from their founding in 1933 through the 1962 season, as well as for throwback games from 2007-10. They’d presumably wear them with their Color Rush uniforms, which, aside from the black pants, are similar to the aforementioned throwback set, which featured white britches.” In previous years, the Steelers have always worn their normal helmets with their Color Rush uniforms. The gold helmets will pair well with the team’s Color Rush uniforms. The new helmets are projected to be released this summer. The team may be hoping that the new alternate helmets will bring them good luck this year. The Steelers lost their last five games of the 2024 season, including the postseason Wild Card game. The Baltimore Ravens defeated the Steelers with a score of 28-14.

In recent years, uniform changes have become more prevalent in the NFL. The league established a new rule this offseason, which permits teams to wear alternate or throwback uniforms four times per season. Previously, the limit was set at three. In 2022, the NFL stopped limiting teams to one helmet each season. The NFL has also recently announced a “Rivalries” uniform series. For each of the next four seasons, two divisions will get new uniforms to wear during home divisional games. The “Rivalries” uniform series is a promotion and won’t become permanent. The AFC North Division, which includes the Steelers, will unveil their “Rivalries” uniforms in 2028.
