The Bears Secret Weapons at WR Could Be the Key to Winning in 2026
The Chicago Bears are just a week away from kicking off their regular season, and the excitement is at an all-time high in the city. The Bears are considered one of the best in the NFC and are expected to make a return to the playoffs, potentially going further than they did last season. At the same time, players have left, including wide receiver D.J. Moore and safety Jaquan Brisker, but Chicago has done a great job filling the gaps through the draft and free agency. Quarterback Caleb Williams will still have an elite arsenal to throw to, including a new face acquired this offseason.
The Bears drafted wide receiver Zavion Thomas with the 89th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The former LSU Tiger made his impact in college, and a big enough one to catch the eye of head coach Ben Johnson. Last season, he caught for 488 yards and scored four touchdowns, and he was a key part of LSU’s success. The speedster will fit as an explosive gadget on the Chicago offense, able to play in the slot or out wide. Thomas has continued to impress in training camp, working his way up the impressive depth chart the Bears have at wide receiver. Chicago will have receivers Rome Odunze and Luther Burden III at their one and two spots, but the third spot will be fought for all season, with plenty of reps available. Fighting for that position will also be wide receiver Jahdae Walker, who is set for a potential breakout season in 2026.
Walker went undrafted in 2025 but was ultimately picked up by Chicago as a free agent. The former Texas A&M Aggie was an impressive player, earning 935 receiving yards and four touchdowns in his two seasons. Mainly working on the Bears as a depth player, Walker had the opportunity for some more reps at the end of the season due to injuries, and he took full advantage. The former Texas A&M standout earned two touchdowns in 2025 and was a part of the epic comeback against their rival, the Green Bay Packers, in the regular season. Since then, the explosive receiver has worked hard in the offseason to make a bigger impact this year, and the hard work seems to be paying off. Walker is expected to have a much bigger role now that Moore is gone, and he has worked with his star quarterback to grow their connection. The Bears now have two secret weapons at wide receiver with the potential to help the team earn wins in 2026.
