‘The OTC’ vs. Rollins: Who Walks Out of SummerSlam 2026 as World Heavyweight Champion?
This year’s edition of SummerSlam is just around the corner. This edition of ‘the hottest show of the summer’ sees its debut as a two-night spectacle this coming weekend. The weekend is filled with high-stakes matches. None compare to the main event of Night Two, however. It’s been over four years since their last championship bout, but former Shield brothers Seth ‘Freakin’ Rollins and Roman Reigns will clash once again over the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.
Their history writes itself. It’s so impactful that all it took for Rollins to earn a shot at Reigns’s World Heavyweight Championship was one promo last month. While his claim of never losing the World Heavyweight Championship was technically true, ‘The Visionary’ went hard into their past, highlighting how he always got the better of his ‘brother’ no matter the circumstances. From ‘Plan B’, ‘The Heist of the Century’ and their Money in the Bank match in 2016, to their 2022 Royal Rumble championship match, ‘The Revolutionary’ helping Cody Rhodes finish his story, and getting ‘The OTC’s’ wiseman to turn on him at WrestleMania 41, Rollins seemingly has found every way imaginable to get the last laugh on his ‘brother’. Reigns could go down as the greatest wrestler of all time, but the one thing he could never do was beat his ‘little brother’.
This clearly struck a nerve because Reigns accepted the bout at SummerSlam after Rollins stated all of the facts. ‘The OTC’ would also talk about all the championships he’d won, WrestleManias he main evented, and the outside endeavors he’d earned due to his overwhelming success in WWE. ‘The Visionary’ was envious of the things Reigns had earned and fought for, but Rollins was also grateful for not being like his ‘brother’, too. They continued to cut promos and attack each other physically, emotionally, and psychologically. WWE creative has booked Rollins to look stronger than Reigns for most of the build. This was highlighted this past Monday Night Raw when ‘The Revolutionary’ hit a stomp on ‘The OTC’ with a chair on the ground to end the show. Will this be the outcome of their SummerSlam matchup, though?
Reigns has been booked strong this year. He won this year’s Royal Rumble and won his WrestleMania match against CM Punk to become WWE World Heavyweight Champion. It’s ironic since that belt was reintroduced during his 1,316-day reign as Undisputed WWE Champion. WWE needed a fighting champion with a consistent WWE presence to defend a top belt, and ‘The OTC’ has yet to defend his belt. The World Heavyweight Champion has kept top stars like Jacob Fatu in line and threatened to take over WWE again with a new iteration of The Bloodline.
Fatu, Jimmy Uso, and Jey Uso have wrecked Raw and SmackDown since they banded together. It hasn’t been smooth doing Reigns’s dirty work, however. ‘The OTC’ has demanded that his Bloodline stop all infighting since the rest of the WWE roster is after them. ‘The Samoan Werewolf’ doesn’t like taking any orders from anyone besides Reigns, leaving The Usos in a tough spot and disconnected from their cousin. The trio has their own matchup at SummerSlam, but they’re more than likely to find a way into this main event bout.
Here’s how the main event of Night Two is likely to play out. Rollins will likely start off hot and strong. ‘The Revolutionary’ will attempt to get a quick finish before Reigns gains control and slows the tempo down. ‘The OTC’ will put his ‘little brother’ in a lot of holds and submissions, but Rollins will fight his way out to reset the match back to square one. From here, the offensive momentum swings will go back and forth between the two future Hall of Famers. The former Shield brothers will get exhausted over time, allowing for The Bloodline to interfere or cause distractions in some capacity. This will cause Royce Keys and Solo Sikoa to come out to even the numbers out somewhat. They’ll eventually get overrun by ‘The OTC’ and the rest of The Bloodline before L.A. Knight begrudgingly comes out to completely even out the numbers game. Knight has had his own issues with The Bloodline and Seth Rollins over the past couple of years. ‘The Megastar’ wants nothing to do with ‘The Visionary’, but above all else, he absolutely despises Reigns and The Bloodline. He’ll find a way to help Rollins win before staring down with the new champion to end SummerSlam and tease their reignited feud.
