The Seat on Netflix Stars the Youngest Formula One Driver

Andrea Kimi Antonelli has exceeded so many expectations and proved that just because you are young, it does not mean you cannot be one of the greats. As of May 5th, the 18-year-old driver has become the youngest to have a documentary filmed about him and put on Netflix. The film explores the Mercedes team and their process in the change after Lewis Hamilton moved to Ferrari after being with the team from 2013- 2025. The young new Mercades star, born and raised in Bologna, grew up in the motorsports world, as his father was a sports car racing driver. Antonelli is still in school, but instead of sitting in class, he is mostly remote and currently travels with the biggest names of Grand Prix racing, matching speed and composure on the track.

Directed by Kyle Thrash, the 45-minute film examines Mercedes’ decision, which was announced last year, to promote the young Antonelli as their newest driver. Now, as he grows in his driving and skill, Antonelli has already broken multiple records in his 2025 debut season. He is now the youngest driver to lead a Grand Prix, the youngest to have a fastest lap, and the youngest to set a track record in a race. With much more under his belt, of course, it was filmed and is now recorded as a part of recent Formula One history. With the amount of talent that Antonelli possesses, he has earned and deserves all the credit he receives, as he puts in so many hours of training with the other drivers, and puts his efforts towards school and his social life.

"The Seat" grants viewers rare access into the inner workings of the Mercedes team and gives an exclusive look at the conversations on the decision of Antonelli’s debut. The documentary also gives a deeper view into Antonelli’s life as he becomes one of the youngest rookies in Formula One history. It shares his close family and shines a light on his Italian roots and culture. This incredible story truly does uncover the intense journey Mercedes took in navigating this pivotal moment in their team's history. Fans should watch the film to learn more about the rookie.
