Three Potential Landing Spots for Two-Time Pro Bowl Receiver
On Thursday, star wide receiver Terry McLaurin requested a trade from the Washington Commanders. Contract negotiations between McLaurin and Commanders general manager Adam Peters hit a standstill, which caused the receiver to hold out from all offseason activities. In the final year of his three-year, $69.6 million contract, McLaurin is looking for another deal as he quickly approaches 30 years old. By requesting this trade, many teams have surely reached out to Peters about McLaurin to see his price tag. In this piece, we’ll take a look at three teams that would be the best fit for the five-time 1,000-yard receiver.
New England Patriots
According to DraftKings, the Patriots have the highest odds to secure a trade for McLaurin at +450 odds. This destination makes sense because New England has the most cap space in the NFL. Also, with Drake Maye entering his second season, he’d have both Stefon Diggs and McLaurin to help his growth in his sophomore season. Much like how he helped propel Washington’s offense into elite status, he could surely be relied on to help an offense that only has one top-16 finish this decade.
Los Angeles Chargers
Justin Herbert has lost a good amount of targets that he’d become familiar with. Keenan Allen, Mike Williams, and Josh Palmer are all now gone, which brings life to a new receiving corps in LA. Allen is still a free agent, but had a visit with the Chargers, Williams retired two and a half weeks ago, and Palmer signed with the Bills. They’re now trotting out Ladd McConkey, Quentin Johnston, and Tre Harris for the upcoming season. McConkey had a fantastic rookie season, but he still has to prove that he can turn into a sure-fire number one receiver. McLaurin could not only make McConkey’s job easier by serving as another threat in the passing game, but he could also mentor the 23-year-old out of Georgia.
Las Vegas Raiders
Few teams have had worse luck at wide receiver than the Las Vegas Raiders before Davante Adams reunited with his college teammate Derek Carr. He notched a First-Team All-Pro selection in 2022 and averaged 102 receptions for over 1,300 yards and over 10 and a half touchdowns. Now, the team enters 2025 with Jakobi Meyers, Tre Tucker, and Dont’e Thronton, Jr. as the top-three wide receivers. With one of the worst receiving corps in the league, the team would be well-equipped by pursuing a top-10 receiver in McLaurin.
