Two New Additions to the NWSL Continue to Grow with Recent Additions
As the 2025 NWSL season is beginning to come to a close, there are many who are already preparing for the upcoming 2026 season. During this past year, the NWSL announced the establishment of two new teams that will enter the pitch at the start of next year's season. The Boston Legacy FC and Denver Summit FC, while each team in the league is actively playing, these two teams, on the other hand, are busy growing. During this past week, each team has been proud to announce new additions to their rosters.
This past Thursday, the Legacy shared on their social media page that midfielder Barbara Olivieri will be joining Boston next year and will stay with them until 2029. This year, she played with the Houston Dash in a total of 13 matches and is also recognized for her participation on the Venezuelan Women’s National Team in this year’s Copa America Femenina. In a previous interview with the Dash, the 23-year-old explained that she has always been proud to represent the competitiveness and passion of Venezuelan culture – something she proudly feels that she demonstrates on the field. Olivieri is known to the public as a very competitive and offensive midfielder. Unlike others, many of her goals have been scored outside or near the outside of the penalty box, proving her dangerous no matter how far she may appear from the goal. Her explosive shots toward goal and connective plays are something many teams in the league will need to watch out for. The Legacy’s General Manager, Dome Guasch, stated to the Legacy’s official transfer blog that Olivieri “suits the team’s style of play and will be a strong addition to what we continue to build at Boston Legacy FC.”
This past Thursday also unpacked huge news for the Summit, as they were pleased to announce that Lourdes Bosch will be joining them in next year’s upcoming season. Bosch is also a midfielder and previously played with the Women’s Mexican National Team and Melbourne City FC during the 2024-2025 season; she played in a total of 23 games with Melbourne. Her dangerous and skillful footwork is something many will need to watch out for. After hiring their first coach, the Summit has brought in a player who recorded nine assists last season, which is a result of her outstanding connectivity. Bosch is quick to the ball, ready to challenge players up close, and defensively aggressive. Her four yellow cards and one red are proof of this. General manager of Denver Summit FC, Curt Johnson, shared on Denver’s official blog page that “Lourdes is an exceptional young talent who brings both creativity and composure in the attacking third [...] We’re thrilled to welcome [her] to Denver.”
Boston Legacy FC and Denver Summit FC have a lot to prepare for and plan as fans and players begin to look ahead to next year’s upcoming season. However, these additions only leave fans excited and wanting more. With the arrival of Olivieri and Bosch, both Boston and Denver are making it clear to fans and other teams in the league that they intend to enter the NWSL as competitive forces from day one. As these teams continue to shape their futures, fans can expect an incredibly entertaining and competitive 2026 season.
