Two New Teams Named In Dolphins CB Drama

NFL

It looks like the Jalen Ramsey drama is finally nearing a resolution. After two straight months of radio silence, the Dolphins appear to have a plan in place, but nothing is expected to happen until the start of training camp. Adam Schefter joined The Pat McAfee Show on Friday to break down NFL storylines that still have traction, with one of the main topics being Ramsey’s situation in Miami. According to Schefter, a trade is expected to happen soon, as Ramsey will likely be moved before camp begins.

Two teams were named by the 16-year ESPN analyst, both residing in the beautiful city of Los Angeles. Ramsey to the Chargers or Rams makes plenty of sense, as they are two playoff teams that could use the services of a top 10 cornerback. The only thing left to decide is whether his new home will cover his hefty bill. With the Dolphins signing Ramsey before the beginning of the 2024 season, the team that acquires him will owe him $20 million guaranteed from the contract, which teams have been very hesitant to agree upon. With that being said, any deal for Ramsey, the Dolphins will most likely have to eat part of the deal and take a significant chunk of the questionable contract.

The Rams are an intriguing destination. Why? That’s where the Dolphins originally acquired him from, moving him due to their salary cap situation and the desire to build extra draft capital. During his time with the Rams, Ramsey was the dominant corner the Dolphins dreamed of acquiring, holding a 91 PFF grade from 2020-2022, which was the third-best among all cornerbacks during that time. Making a move for Ramsey would make a ton of sense for Los Angeles; their cornerback room isn’t very deep, but the financial situation is what’s preventing them from jumping on their former player.

In an interview from minicamp, Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked about potentially bringing Ramsey back and how it’ll affect their cap space. “Usually, those are scenarios and situations where you have to have plans in place prior to executing some of the decisions that have occurred,” McVay said. The drama for the Miami Dolphins is finally beginning to wind down. This means that the Dolphins' front office can return to looking for new pieces while also rebranding their defense in a world without their star cornerback.
