Two Players the Cowboys Hope to Re-Sign Next Season

NFL

As the Dallas Cowboys head into their final game of the season against the New York Giants, the focus shifts toward evaluating talent across the roster. That includes players who have seen limited opportunities as well as those entering free agency ahead of next season. While developing young talent remains important, pending contracts carry greater weight as the Cowboys look win back the NFC East from the Eagles. Dallas has long approached free agency differently than most teams, often preferring to retain its own players rather than pursue outside additions. In many ways, re-signing internal talent serves as the organization’s version of free agency. With two key contributors on opposite sides of the ball set to hit the open market, the Cowboys are expected to prioritize bringing both back as they prepare for another division push.

Jadeveon Clowney

The 32-year-old Jadeveon Clowney has provided much-needed leadership and production on the defensive side of the ball. Since his debut in Week Four against the Packers, Clowney has recorded six sacks and forced a fumble, standing out on an otherwise inconsistent Dallas defense. His impact has not gone unnoticed in the locker room. Quarterback Dak Prescott publicly voiced support for Clowney’s return following his standout performance against Washington on Christmas, saying “we’re fortunate to have him; he’s one of those guys that we have got to figure out a way to keep.” The challenge for Dallas lies in Clowney’s age and long-term outlook. At 32, he has earned the flexibility to choose where and how he finishes his career. For a Cowboys team coming off a disappointing season, the question becomes whether Dallas has done enough to convince Clowney that staying another year aligns with his goals.

Javonte Williams

The running back position has been a lingering question for Dallas over the past three seasons. Those concerns resurfaced entering 2025, when the Cowboys opted to sign only one running back: Javonte Williams on a one-year, three-million-dollar deal. What followed exceeded nearly all expectations. Williams delivered 1,201 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns, emerging as one of the most valuable signings of the offseason and providing stability at a position that had lacked it. With the running back position being easier to replace than the rest and other teams willing to poach him, the Cowboys have the option to let him go. However, with Jerry Jones loving the way he runs the football, he will try his best to make Dallas William’s home for the foreseeable future.
