Underrated MMA Talent Outside the UFC

UFC

Every UFC Champion starts somewhere — whether it’s on the regional scene, in international promotions, or climbing through lesser-known organizations. While the spotlight stays fixed on the UFC, a new generation of killers is grinding in the shadows, sharpening their skills and waiting for a breakout moment. These fighters might not be on your radar yet, but they have the talent, drive, and potential to become the next big names in the sport. If you're a true fan of MMA or someone who loves spotting future stars before they blow up, now is the time to invest your attention in the underrated talent making waves outside the UFC.

Baysangur Chamsoudinov – Welterweight, 9-0, France

Baysangur Chamsoudinov is quietly emerging as one of the most complete Welterweights outside the UFC. Just 23 years old, he has already compiled an impressive 9-0 record, blending crisp striking with well-rounded grappling and high fight IQ. His stock rose significantly after a competitive bout with world-class kickboxer Cédric Doumbé, which ended unusually due to a splinter in Doumbé’s foot. Despite the abrupt finish, Chamsoudinov proved he can handle the spotlight. He’s also notched wins over multiple undefeated prospects and most recently delivered a knockout against 10-1 Thiago Lima. A UFC debut seems all but confirmed — smart fans would be wise to get on the hype train early.

Tyler Veal – Welterweight, 6-0, USA

Tyler Veal is an underrated Welterweight prospect who knows how to win, even if he's not chasing finishes. The 28-year-old is 6-0 with all victories coming by decision — a risky stat in a sport that often rewards flash, but one that highlights his ability to control every aspect of a fight. Despite being a green prospect, Veal has shown impressive composure and fight IQ, especially in his last three bouts against opponents with a combined record of 15-3. He handled each challenge with clarity and confidence. If he can develop finishing power to match his control and consistency, he could become a serious threat in the near future.

Wes Schultz – Middleweight, 7-2, USA

Wes Schultz is a gritty Middleweight with the kind of toughness and finishing ability that makes him a dangerous matchup for anyone. At 28 years old, the former college wrestler holds a 7-2 record with six finishes, most recently submitting a 7-4 opponent in just 55 seconds via guillotine choke. His lone appearance on Dana White’s Contender Series ended in a knockout loss to current UFC standout Mansur Abdul-Malik, but not before Schultz gave a solid account of himself. He also had a close fight with Dylan Budka, who has since made it to the UFC. Schultz thrives in high-pressure exchanges and knows how to wear down opponents. With some improvements to his cardio and pacing, a return to DWCS — and a second shot at the big stage — feels like a matter of when, not if.

Josiah Harrell – Welterweight, 9-0, USA

Josiah Harrell is an explosive Welterweight prospect with a perfect 9-0 record, and every single win has come by finish. With five knockouts and four submissions, the 26-year-old has proven he’s a true threat no matter where the fight goes. In 2023, Harrell was set to make a huge leap by facing current UFC Welterweight Champion Jack Della Maddalena, but a rare brain condition forced him to withdraw and take nearly two years away from competition. After a successful return in 2025, Harrell looks as dangerous as ever. With his finishing ability, resilience, and story of perseverance, don’t be surprised if he earns a spot on Dana White’s Contender Series in the near future — and makes the most of it.
