Warriors Aim to Extend Series Lead Without Curry in Game Two Against Timberwolves

NBA

The Golden State Warriors will aim to take a commanding 2-0 lead over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Thursday night in Game Two of the Western Conference semifinals, but they’ll have to do it without Stephen Curry. The star guard suffered a left hamstring strain in the second quarter of Game One and has been ruled out for at least the next three games. An MRI confirmed a Grade One strain, and the team announced Curry will be re-evaluated in one week. Golden State won the opener 99-88 behind a balanced team effort and a stifling defensive performance.

With Curry sidelined, the Warriors leaned on veteran leadership and timely shooting to secure a critical road win. Buddy Hield stepped up with 24 points, drilling five three-pointers on eight attempts, while Jimmy Butler added 20 points, 11 rebounds and eight assists in a near triple-double performance. Draymond Green had one of his best performances of the post season so far with 18 points, four assists, and strong communication on defense, including early pressure on Anthony Edwards. Golden State held Minnesota to 17.2% from beyond the arc and forced 16 turnovers in a game defined by defensive grit and disciplined rotations.

Timberwolves coach Chris Finch acknowledged his team’s offensive struggles and said Edwards needs to assert himself early in Game Two. Edwards, who averaged 25.9 points during the regular season, was held to only one point at halftime, ending with 23 points, with most of his production coming late. Minnesota will also look for stronger contributions from Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley, who combined for just nine points, all scored by Gobert. Finch emphasized the need for sharper execution, ball movement, and physicality to break down Golden State’s help-heavy defense.

Game Two promises to be a pivotal test of depth, resilience, and tactical adjustments for both teams. For the Warriors, sustaining ball movement, limiting turnovers, and replicating their Game One defensive energy will be crucial without Curry’s offensive gravity. The Timberwolves must counter with more aggressive guard play and better perimeter shooting to protect their home court. With momentum and series control on the line, both teams are expected to elevate their physicality and execution in what could become a tone-setting battle.
