What a 30-Year-Old Colts Cornerback Could Bring to the Cowboys in 2026?

NFL

The Indianapolis Colts and their 30-year-old cornerback, Kenny Moore, are trying to find a trade partner for him as his contract is going to expire this year. With 21 interceptions, 411 yards gained, and nearly a decade of experience under his belt, he’s a perfect candidate for the Dallas Cowboys to snatch up. In addition, behind-the-scenes financials wouldn’t be too much for the team to consider bringing him into the fold. Moore had a $30 million contract over three years with the Colts, something not outside the Cowboys’ budget, even with their current high salary cap and Jerry Jones’ fears that he’d have to bust the budget and sacrifice long-term goals for short-term gains.

The Colts still owe him $10 million dollars, which they wouldn’t have to pay if they cut him soon, sweetening the pot and giving more leverage to work out contract specifics that would benefit the Cowboys. The stats and his position would greatly improve their defensive odds, helping to stop the run and really focus on his specialized skills, as Christian Parker has emphasized is their state goal. While the Cowboys could always try to draft other players rather than grabbing a cornerback that’s at the tail end of his contract, there could be a better relationship formed by a mutual signing agreement to save both of the team’s salary caps. This would have enabled Moore to move from one place to another without a long and arduous search for a place where he belongs, even if it means giving up some of the last bits of his remaining pay.

While the Cowboys could just sit and wait for the contract to run out, it makes more sense from the team’s perspective to move him to void the remaining money if it were done before June 1st, freeing up over seven million in funds. This does leave the question of whether Moore would accept a quick send-off and shift in exchange for that salary? After all, that is not an insignificant amount of money to leave on the table. That makes an early departure a lot less likely.
