What Does a Former Alabama Forward Have to Do to Take the Next Step in His NBA Career?

NBA

Earlier this week, Charlotte Hornets head coach Charles Lee hosted a luncheon where he met with fans and media to discuss the team heading into training camp. At the luncheon, he discussed the health and progress of star players LaMelo Ball and Brandon Miller. According to Roderick Boone of the Charlotte Observer, both Ball and Miller are making progress in their health and getting stronger to prepare for the physicality of the NBA. For Hornets fans, hearing this news about Miller is good because it means getting stronger and putting on more weight is exactly what Miller has to do to take the next step in his NBA career.

Boone is not the only one reporting that the former Alabama forward should put on more weight; NBA Draft guru Sam Vecenie believes that, too. While talking about players, he believes will break out in the upcoming season, Vecenie mentioned Miller as a player who is going to take the “leap at some point.” For him to do that, he has to get into the weight room and build up his physicality to avoid injuries. The same thing can be said for LaMelo Ball, as fans have wanted him to remain healthy for a whole season. If Miller can join Ball on the court this season, the Hornets will have a pair of players that fans will rally around and root for throughout their time in the Queen City. It is important not only for Miller to remain healthy for the fans and organization, but for himself as well. The six-foot-seven forward is coming off an injury-riddled season where he averaged 21 points, five rebounds, and three assists. If he continues to put up those numbers with a new physique, then he can turn himself into a perennial all-star in the years to come.

Once Miller gets the all-clear to get on the court, fans should be excited to see the progress he has made. He is a rising star in this league and has the skills to take the next step in his career, but now he needs the build to match his skillset to keep up with the demands of the position on the offensive and defensive ends. The 22-year-old is a huge part of the future of the Hornets organization. Now, it is up to him to put it all together, and according to his head coach, he is making good progress on that end.
