What Four-Time Pro Bowler Could Bring to the Bears Defense

NFL

The Dallas Cowboys will now be without star defensive end Micah Parsons, as he requested a trade earlier this week. The shocking news would shake the NFL world, with multiple teams being linked to possibly being the new home of Parsons. While nothing is confirmed, the Chicago Bears are one of the teams to keep an eye on as we await where Parsons will end up. The four-time Pro Bowler would be a massive addition to the Bears’ already impressive defense, and could be the piece Chicago needs to make a serious run for the Playoffs.

Parsons would have another impressive season in 2024, having 12 sacks and two forced fumbles. The current Cowboy has had 12 or more sacks in his four seasons in the NFL since he was drafted in 2021. The Bears have not had a defensive end get 12 or more sacks playing the whole season with the team since defensive end Robert Quinn getting 18.5 in 2021. Fortunately for Chicago, getting the defensive end position fixed was a priority since Ben Johnson joined the team.

The Bears signed defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo this offseason to a three-year, $48 million deal. He has come in as a projected starter across from defensive end Montez Sweat, hoping to provide much-needed support to sack the quarterback and take the pressure off Sweat. While the Bears aren’t in dire need of another player to attack the quarterback, the Parsons situation is very similar to the trade the Bears would make with defensive end Khalil Mack four years ago. Chicago would acquire Mack, who would then have a 12.5 sack season, and become a staple of the Bears’ defense for four years. With the exceptional production Parsons has shown, the situation feels eerily similar and like an opportunity the Bears couldn’t pass up. While it’s still early in the process of teams trying to get Parsons, the regular season starts in just four weeks. Ben Johnson and his team will be ones to keep an eye on, as Parsons could potentially become a new Monster of the Midway.
