What Is the Impact of a Five-Time World Champion's Knee Injury?

WWE

On the 40th edition of Saturday Night’s Main Event, Seth Rollins suffered a knee injury in his match against LA Knight. The injury occurred when the Architect landed awkwardly while performing a Moonsault. Reports surfaced that Rollins was supposed to win this match, and the finish had to be changed as a result of the injury. This is a huge blow if the Visionary has to miss significant time away from the squared circle. The Revolutionary received an MRI on Monday, but the extent of his injury has not yet been revealed. Rollins and his group are the vocal point of Monday Night Raw, and storylines are built around them. Now, the WWE must pivot and find new ways to keep fans invested in what is going on with this new group until Rollins returns.

On the July 14th episode of Raw, fans gained a clearer picture of the plan for this group going forward. In the main event of this episode of Raw, Bron Breakker eliminated Penta, Knight, and Jey Uso before being defeated by CM Punk in a Gauntlet match to determine who would face Gunther for the World Heavyweight Championship at SummerSlam. Breakker and Bronson Reed then attacked Punk and Jey Uso, who were coming to make the save. However, both members of the Visionaries’ new group did not anticipate the return of the Tribal Chief, Roman Reigns. Reigns went on to take out both men to close out the show. This will most likely lead to a tag team match at the Biggest Party of the Summer, pitting Reigns and Uso against Breakker and Reed. For this group to stay relevant, they will have to be involved in programs with the top stars in the company, and this tag team match at SummerSlam could be the start of the WWE doing that.

For Breakker and Reed, this injury could be a blessing in disguise as the two stars now have more opportunities to showcase who they are. Specifically, it looks like Breakker is going to get a big push, as it is evident that the company sees him as a future superstar. The former Intercontinental Champion seems to be putting the pieces together under Rollins and Paul Heyman’s guidance. Another question that was answered on Raw was what is going to happen with the Money in the Bank briefcase. Rollins won the briefcase and has until June 2026 to cash it in on a world champion, and that is the option that the WWE has decided to take. The two-time MITB winner will not be forced to hand over his briefcase, but officials will have to wait to see when he comes back to factor the briefcase into their plans.

If Rollins has to miss time with a knee injury, it would be a huge loss for the WWE. He is one of the biggest stars in the company and was a significant part of the storylines going forward. However, this opens the door for two of Rollins' groupmates to hold down the fort until he gets back, and they could also elevate themselves into superstardom in the WWE. Rollins will be back, but how long will he be gone is the main question on fans' minds right now?
