What Should Hornets Fans Watch for When the Team Starts Training Camp?

NBA

Starting next week, the Charlotte Hornets will start Training Camp for the 2025-26 NBA Season. Training Camp will be in Charleston, SC, at The Citadel University from September 30th to October 5th. This is where the Hornets will sort out their roster by determining who will be in the starting lineup and who will come off the bench. In Charles Lee’s second season coaching the team, there will be emphasis on making three-pointers and fine-tuning the defense. The Hornets ranked near the bottom in both categories last season. So, what else should fans be watching for, and who should they have their eyes on as the march towards the regular season begins? Let’s dive in!

First, the team will be monitoring the progress of Brandon Miller. The small forward from Alabama has dealt with his fair share of injuries, and now he is coming off a wrist injury. The 2023 second overall pick is a critical piece to the young core of the Hornets, and fans and coaches will be looking to see the progress he makes in the upcoming season. Speaking of checking on the health of a star player, the organization will look to see how LaMelo Ball bounces back from his injuries. The third overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft has dealt with injuries consistently throughout his young NBA career, but he has all the potential in the world to be a superstar in this league. In his luncheon last weekend, Coach Lee said that both Ball and Miller have been recovering well from their injuries, and Ball, in particular, has put on more weight to handle the physicality in the league. This is something that Hornets fans want to see from Miller so that he can take the next step.

Other things to watch include the new look roster. The Hornets acquired a plethora of guards in the offseason, including Collin Sexton and Spencer Dinwiddie. They drafted Kon Knueppel and Liam McNeely, who were both standouts in the NBA Summer League in July. With these new additions, it remains to be seen how these players will fit the vision that Coach Lee is building in Charlotte, but fans are excited about the potential that these players could bring to the team. The Hornets finished with a 19-63 record last season, yet with each new season, there is always the idea of improvement, and it all starts at Training Camp. With the new season on the horizon, fans, coaches, and the organization will look to see what they have in their new-look roster. What will their star players look like as they recover from their injuries? What will their new players show them in Charleston? These questions will be answered in the next few weeks as the Queen City’s NBA team prepares for the upcoming NBA season.
