What Team Would Be the Best Fit for the Warriors 22-Year-Old Forward?

NBA

Jonathan Kuminga has remained one of the best available free agents out there. The Warriors have yet to reach a deal with him, and other teams have taken interest. One of those teams is the Sacramento Kings. Earlier in August, a three‑year, $63 million contract was offered for Kuminga in exchange for Malik Monk and a lottery‑protected 2030 first‑round pick. The Warriors did not agree to that deal, which some people thought meant Kuminga was nearing a deal with the Warriors to stay. Almost a month later, Kuminga and the Warriors have not reached anything, and time is running out.

The Kings are the best option for Kuminga to join. He would be next to players like Zach LaVine and Domantas Sabonis. This would provide Kuminga the featured leadership role he has been looking for, while letting him grow into a star as well. Not much is expected of the Kings next season, so acquiring a young star like Kuminga and equipping him with NBA veterans and young players alike helps him flourish. A deal like that would also have helped the Warriors acquire Malik Monk, which would have given the Warriors much-needed scoring coming off the bench, and occasionally starting role. The Kings would also get the perimeter defender they desperately need instead of relying on an aging DeMar DeRozan. A young star like Kuminga would be a crucial on-ball defender in crunch time.

Athleticism is something the Kings would also be getting if they acquired Kuminga. With an aging roster, they need to make some noise in the NBA West Conference. Other teams that would also be a good fit include the Chicago Bulls because of the desire for the Bulls to go beyond the Play-In Tournament, which they have been stuck on for a few years now. The Brooklyn Nets can also be sly and sneaky in the Kuminga trade talks, pairing him up with Michael Porter Jr., and making some noise in Brooklyn could lead others to want to join the party and revitalize the team again. Overall, though, the Kings are the best fit for Kuminga if he wants a leadership role and wants to be the face of a franchise with veterans on board.
